Notes

Led Zeppelin II is the second studio album, released October 22, 1969.

The original US 1st pressings (with 1841 Broadway address on the label rim text), feature Robert Ludwig's "hot" mastering on both sides. These were withdrawn early because the high bass levels caused low-grade cartridges to mistrack, leading people to return the album on the belief that it was defective. Another engineer was then hired to recut a much less "hot" version of the album, and that is the far more common version.

I purchased this after doing a lot of reading and came across quite a few comments stating that this CD’s sound is the closest you will get to an original Robert Ludwig pressing LP. Well let me tell you. This will not disappoint. I definitely agree with the comparisons to the RL.

This pressing sounds amazing, a friend of mine has it among his great collection and this one is without a doubt the jewel of the crown. I never listened to Led Zeppelin like this before. I never listened to the supossed best editions, but I can't imagine any sounding much better than this. Everything feels alive and well balanced, the drums are amazing.

Had a Presswell version for years and recently obtained the Monarch, My opinion is the Monarch has more balanced energy. Both are great but the Monarch wins the duel.

Did a shootout with this and the most recent Jimmy Page remaster and decided to keep this pressing. Much warmer sound, the remaster seemed like it had some harsher high end. Whereas this pressing has a much smoother sound and a more pleasant listening experience in the end. I could definitely see how the RL cut could pack more punch, though. Still very curious about that pressing
