John Coltrane – A Love Supreme

A few years ago, I launched a website as a birthday present to myself, but it didn’t really go anywhere, so I took it down after two years. On it, I was displaying my music and movie collection, as well as some homemade recipes. When displaying the list of Platinum-SHM CD’s I owned, this edition of A Love Supreme was on there. Sometime in May 2023, if I right, I got an email from one Charles Nordlander asking if my copy was for sale. He didn’t realize at the time that it was just a private collection. I clarified the misunderstanding with him, and in doing so, it turned out that Mr. Nordlander was in fact part of the production team on PBS’s Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?, which was one of my favorites in grade school! And who in the 90’s didn’t love that show? I told him it was that cool to hear from him randomly, and even when I was in grade school, I knew about the likes of Herbie Hancock, Led Zeppelin, Peter Gabriel-era Genesis, etc. Most Canadian seems to think negatively of the US just because of Trump, but I still love the country. After all, I explained to him that besides Carmen Sandiego, I grew up with Sesame Street, Reading Rainbow, Square One TV, Ghostwriter, Bill Nye the Science Guy and The Puzzle Place, and they certainly gave me wanderlust. Man, they don’t make shows like those anymore. Nordlander said that he misses Lynne Thigpen, but is still in touch with Greg Lee, ACME’s Senior Agent in Charge of Training New Recruits, and that he’s enjoyed working on the reality show Pawn Stars. Sadly, he and I haven’t become pen pals like I hoped, but it was still cool that this CD of A Love Supreme made me get that email in the first place.

Might be controversial, but I much prefer the 1st RVG Stereo pressing over the 1st Mono.

Nothing more to add - all the rave reviews are legit and genuine. One of my favorite reissues in my collection. Love starting my day with this record before going to work.

Right now this is $22.38 plus shipping on the Verve website. I was going to get one but my 70s Japanese pressing sounds better than the Acoustic Sounds Series release from a couple of years ago, so I figured this is probably about the same in as that one in sound quality.

Agree, great pressing! Mine looks VG at most - more like the remnant of the French Revolution, but still plays great.

As The_Vinyl_Dealer I have an old Japanese pressing to compare to too. This UHQR might sound slightly more dynamic (barely noticeble) but also a little brighter, whereas the sax is more prominent on the Japanese pressing. I prefer the Japanese pressing... These UHQRs (the only other one I have is "Kind of Blue") probably all deserve 5 stars yet somehow don't quite meet my (huge) expectations, somehow let me down... seeing all those raving reviews. I feel like they are massively overpriced (however I will upgrade my cartridge this summer, maybe this will make a difference).

Well this is lovely. The presentation is remarkable. .
My pressing is a semi transparent snot green colour, which I find bizarrely very aesthetic.

Sounds fantastic.

Highly Recommend.

Record is well pressed; low surface noise and well centered.
Lacks midbass/lower mids and sounds thin because of it, but that's either a mixing or mastering issue.

despite whats being said, mine came perfect, no pops ir clicks.
