Now THIS is how this album was meant to be experienced. Before I got this I owned the complete sessions 3LP, which sounded good but was a bit dry and sorta bright. By chance I managed to score this original 65 version off eBay, in immaculate condition. Put it on the turntable and BOOM this thing EXPLODES out of the speakers! The saxophone is dead center and all of its fiery intensity can be heard flying overhead all of the other instruments here. This was a sharp contrast to my previous version of the album where the saxophone was soft and felt more like a supplement to everything else. But on this original copy everything is distinct and clear, you can focus in on any instrument you like and get lost in it. This album is a deeply spiritual experience, and if you love this thing like I do then you HAVE to seek out an original copy. It will be expensive but it’s like nothing you’ve ever heard, and I doubt even the new acoustic sounds analog copies can match the intensity of this pressing.
After 55 years this masterpiece still sounds fresh and beautiful, truly one of the most soul moving pieces of music you can hear.
