Summary of U.S. LP versions:
-- Earliest promo copies have title in script.
-- First issue (1975) has PC catalog number prefix. First-state covers are designated with the misprint tag. They credit "John Landau." Some have a sticker, which corrects "John" to "Jon."
-- First mastering has MCR in the runouts.
-- Second issue has correct Jon Landau credit printed on back cover.
-- Third issue (1977) has JC catalog number prefix, no barcode, correct Jon Landau credit. Later versions have G1 in runouts.

Edited 16 days agoHey, folks. I have a copy that's baffling me. Bought in the SF Bay Area around 1981.
Side A runout is (stamped) P AL 33795-1AL 1T o E (Terre Haute, right?) "E" is etched.
Side B runoout is (looks like) an etched S over an etched M (stamped) P BL 33795-1AD (etched) S (or S1) (etched) C7 (Santa Maria?)
Is that even possible it could be Terre Haute and Santa Maria? Is this a new version? No clue and looking for some . -

WHAT is different in the back of sleeve? Completely pointless note to add. -

Does anyone else have a pressing with BL 33795-1BE on the B side? As far as I can tell, it would be this pressing, bc other pressings that have PAL 33795-1AJ on the A side have other notes on the runout but these are the only cat numbers/etchings on my copy. Otherwise, I don't know how I would know which pressing I own. -
Edited 3 months agoWhen I bought it "digital" did not exist, so it can not be a digital reissue.
And actually this is a pretty damn good pressing, super value for money. Anybody interested I can provide details of sound equipment, comparisons with other pressings etc.
I thought I should add my experience separately. -
Top notch pressing. Sturdy Gatefold, the trick is to find one without foxing which these covers were notorious for. -
The sound quality is the best I've heard for this glorious mess of a recording. This is the only LP version in my experience that has achieved any useful clarity in this famously dense mix, and it isn't compressed like the 2014 Plangent remasters. I've owned the original, the half-speed, the plangent, Netherlands and UK pressings. Maybe there's a Japanese pressing that's as good or better, but I'm not a huge fan of the typically treble-boosted Japanese mastering that seems to be the norm. That may actually help this record, though.
