My copy is an A2/B1 and although I really enjoy it, I don't think it holds a candle to the Classic Records pressing. The tape Peckham was given (or maybe he wasn't given a tape IDK) is missing a noticeable amount of air. The bass and guitar is really nice but the drums and vocals are quite veiled in comparison to the Classic. The Classic though certainly isn't perfect as it has a lot of sibilance on some tracks, and can be irritating on occasion especially if your system is bright. But I'd still recommend it over this.

Dang, this is a banger! I thought the release in the Phases box set was good but this thing blows it off the turntable. Sounds amazing with a mono cart.

This is the real deal and preferable to the somewhat tame EMI pressing, especially on side A. Straight into your face!

This pressing is really awesome. I was not expecting such good quality sound. Porky nailed it!! 5 stars.

This is an absolute ripper of a pressing!! What an amazing alternative to the original UK press and like 1/80 of the cost too! Porky cut!! Pick this one up while it’s priced below market

“An explosive debut, and the hardest mod pop recorded by anyone. [T]he Who never sured the pure energy level of this record” M Some tracks do sound better than others, but that’s par for the course with this kind of material. On the best songs, it has all the top-end, bass and presence that is missing from other copies. I’ve never heard these songs sound better than they do here. Mastered from the original 1965 mono mix !

This reissue got a bad rep , like "thin vinyl"and so on .NOTHING WRONG with it !!!
The ONLY one which ( MIGHT ) better this one is the original Brunswick ( MAYBE ) ,
but yiou then have to find it in pristine condition ( good luck with it ) & shell quite some serious money to get it . -

Edited 9 years agoPorky Prime Cut - possibly better than the original? Def cheaper than a mint Brunswick
-
this is a nice reissue from 1980, i have had this for 35 years now, i prefer the original uk copy from 1965 that i have in near mint condition BUT finding one in near mint condition is the problem on the original brunswick label...... this one was put out by virgin records
