Hi. Can anyone help me please? I have a vinyl copy of this on Brunswick cat. LAT8616 MONO. The letters for Brunswick on the labels are unfilled, unlike all the photos on the above listings. Can anyone help me put a date on this release? Thanks.

To have the absolute correct UK Decca dotted inner sleeve for the very first pressing, it must be the Variant 3a inner with “125 Made In England” on the bottom left hand side of the front, which shows the sleeve is dated for December 1965.

Its about what you would expect from a UK originals sound.
Somewhat loud, although its track dependent, and decently balanced.
Vocals usually take the clear front of the soundstage while the rest is pushed back about equally.
Separation is only okay however so it will be quite messily displayed much of the time.
It does have some shrieking guitars which can get really loud in the high end, especially on The Goods Gone, but bass is rarely ever emphasized, probably because of the cutting goals at the time.
Ideally you would need a remote for your amp to increase and lower the volume to tackle the level inconsistency in the recordings.
Not exactly an audiophile pressing but it its not to be expected. I would only recommend it to die hard fans and collectors.
To others the Classic Records reissue is likely the way to go.

          Equipment Used:

I noticed a distinct sound miss-match between the tracks recorded at the 1st sessions (spring 1965) and the ones recorded later (October 1965) . The later ones are much louder and clearer on this pressing.

this is a review for the original 1965 uk pressing of this classic debut lp, the front of the lp sleeve is laminated and the back of the sleeve is not laminated, this is on the uk brunswick label on very thick vinyl as all records where made back in the mid 60s, the only problem i had with obtaining this record was it took years to find one in ex++++ condition, in fact if i where a blow hard i could say i have a near mint copy of this BUT i dont feel that is a proper rating for a 50 year old lp, once again there are many copies of this lp out there as it did very well when released at the end of 1965 in the uk BUT its not easy to find a copy in great shape as this is a 50 year old lp now.....great mono sound
