Edited 4 months agoGreat packaging and, most importantly, pressing quality and mastering. I don't have an original to compare to but the vinyl is absolutely silent, mostly flat and very detailed and dynamic (Ortofon 2M Black).
In the last 2 years Optimal has been producing the most consistent quality pressings. Completely on par (perhaps better than) RTI and Quality. -

Hmmm…not the best sounding of the Bowie reissues. A little flat, not very dynamic and the mix is kind of muddled. Instrument separation is lacking. Not cut very hot. Still better than the CD — no horrible sibilance / overmodulation on the track Fame.
-
Edited 2 years agoVery flat, very clean and great sound. First time I played this, there were skips everywhere, mainly on Side B. Every subsequent listen has been perfectly fine though, so take caution and don't sell immediately if it skips
-
Great sounding version for me to properly listen to this Bowie album to for the first time having not really given it the time of day before.
-
This 'Young Americans' pressing is one of the better Bowie Parlophone reissues, and it's definitely a good starter copy. It's warm and rich, which is a sound that many people like. However, I prefer the tan label RCA original. It's much brighter, but it's got much better soundstage detail and vocal/instrument separation; you can literally hear the post-nasal drip on that one. In comparison, this reissue sounds thicker and not necessarily in a desired way, but I can see why many would enjoy it.
-
Surprised to see so many positive reviews of this pressing, I returned my first and found that the second had a similar issue with skipping & scratches. I may well have gotten unlucky, but I would advise a different pressing.
-
Sounds Incredible!! Nice pressing. Every track is great but the "Somebody Up There Likes Me" track get's me up off the couch and dancing every time.
-
Superb remastering and packaging. The current Bowie RM RE have been spot-on, and are your ‘go to pressings.
-
Fantastic! Clean, flat and flawless pressing. Dynamic with a nice sound stage. It has a full, warm, rich and expansive sound. I got mine from Amazon. This one was done right!
