Young Americans is the ninth from 26 studio albums (1967-2016) by British rock musician RCA Records label. Bowie calls the album his own protest album.
Musically, he left the rock sound of his previous albums and recorded Young Americans within a week at John Lennon.
The album was remastered several times over the years. The first of these was in 1991 as part of Au20 line; sources vary as to whether or not this release reinstated the original mixes of the affected songs.
The second remaster was as part of Parlophone, who inherited the rights to the Bowie catalog following the dissolution of EMI in 2012.
The third and most recent remaster was in 2016 by Parlophone as part of the box set Who Can I Be Now? [1974-1976], also lacking bonus tracks and using the 1974 mixes of "Win", "Fascination", and "Right". The bonus tracks from the Rykodisc release were instead featured on The Gouster, an early version of Young Americans exclusive to the set. The remaster of Young Americans would also receive a standalone release the following year.

Starting on track 5 of the DVD mine skips horribly in 5.1 in both DTS and Dolby Digital. Visually the disc is Mint. Has anyone else experienced this issue? -
This was only the second Bowie RCA CD I'd heard, and yes, it sounds wonderful. But it also inspired me to spin the old Ryko disc, and you know what, that sounds great too. The RCA, however, is more like the vinyl and has the original mixes. Worth tracking down if fussing with old vinyl isn't your thing. -

Lovely flat and silent vinyl the likes Optimal can do well (but dont always!). Packaging is not and somewhat threadbare but decent enough all the same. Sound quality is - on first playthrough - i feel somewhat flat. I kinda want a little more low end depth and a sweeter, more airy top end. I havent compared it the the other recentish 33rpm non Half Speed yet so maybe this is alot better and i just expect too much! -

Wow. This far exceeds my expectations. Dead silent, flat, and very dynamic pressing. I have never heard this record sound so present. -

The quality of the recording and the vinyl they used is excellent. Can't say enough about that.
However I went through 3 before I called it quits. Can't find one that's not warped. It's a weird warp too. Almost like the stamper was bent up along one edge so there were cupping warps. It caused my stylus to literally jump from groove to groove about 6 times before it stopped. This happened on both sides.
After returning the first 2 and then getting a 3rd with the same problem I figured I was not meant to have this. :-(
I wish these pressing plants would have better quality control. -

Buy Buy Buy, after reading some reviews, I was worried thinking it would sound too digital, this was my homework record, my mum would always say “are you sure you can concentrate”, it worked, I eventually got a 2.1 degree in Optometry, back to the review, it’s like the original fab UK press but with added detail, I feel 17 again, I’m going to take it to the Holy Holy gig in MCR and get Tony to sign it, hopefully -

These Half-Speed Masters separate the instruments so much more than previously heard on these Bowie albums, allowing a more exciting and engaging listen, this is a remaster done very well, sounds amazing on my Rega P6/Ania setup. Arrived dead flat on both sides, in poly lined sleeve, after a pro clean very quiet vinyl, no marks or scratches on vinyl, no pressing defects. A 5 star LP. -

Even though I think the prices for today's vinyl are way over the top, as a Bowie fan I couldn't resist the temptation. Although I already own the Young Americans in various editions and formats, I was convinced that a mastering from a Neumann machine was a “non-plus-ultra”. And I was not disappointed. Incredible transparency and channel separation with enormous dynamics. The instruments and Bowie's voice impress with their clarity without sounding sterile. So this album is really fun to listen to, provided you have configured your “HiFi setup” accordingly, because with some comments I wonder what the commentators hear or don't (want to) hear. For me, at any rate, it is a recommended purchase. -

Sounds absolutely incredible. Clear and well balanced with nice punchy bass. Has raised this album higher in my Bowie ranking -

I must have gotten a dud because my copy was warped and unplayable. Everything skips, especially the first track on both sides. The packaging and presentation are beautiful though!
