Founded in 1917 as a lithographic and letterpress printers and packaging company, legally known as Robert Stace & Company Ltd, subsequently renamed to Robert Stace Ltd in 1989 and a further name change in 1995 to St Ives Multimedia Ltd.

On 28th Feb 1975 the company acquires the printing and packaging firm Clout & Baker Ltd., and as of 1978 the ultimate parent company was Decca Limited (A holding company for all Decca global companies and subsidiaries)

In 1981 Robert Stace and subsidiary company Clout & Baker is acquired by Burrups Printing Group (a holding company for numerous printing firms) and part of the Extel Group Plc, subsequently in June 1987 the Extel Group Plc is acquired by United Newspapers who later sell the printing arm of the business Burrups Printing Group to St Ives Group Plc.
