Just picked one of these up for cheap (jacket not in good shape, but the vinyl is terrific). It sounds great. Really good mix. Quite happy with this. -
Such an under appreciated gem in Zeppelin's discography. I want to say its underrated but its hard to put this up against the rest of their legendary discography. On the whole In Through the Out Door is a consistently better album, but the highs on this album are incredible. Achilles' Last stand is easily a top 3 Zeppelin song for me. For Your Life, Nobody's Fault and Tea for One are all highlights too. This record makes me think about what Zeppelin could have been if Jimmy had stayed clean from heroin.
As far as the pressing goes, it sound great and its a great value for what little money it goes for. I have heard that the Classic Records pressing is great too with more bass, but for the prices they are going for this is more than enough. -
Is it just me, or does anyone else notice Page’s guitar brought way down and Bonham’s bass way up on “For Your Life”? In fact, the mix on several tracks of this pressing is different from what I am used to hearing on this release.. -
The design for this album sleeve was apparently largely the work of the late, great Peter Christopherson. In a recent obituary broadcast on BBC, Hipgnosis co-owner Aubrey Powell reflects on how this sleeve was a perfect match of Christopherson's dark vibe with an effective design that worked well for the music. He states that it was Peter's idea specifically to superimpose the obelisks onto the photographs rather than have them as actual props while the photos were being taken.
