The material on the companion disc presents a portal to the time of the recording of Led Zeppelin. It is a selection of work in progress with rough mixes, backing tracks, alternate versions and new material recorded at the time
Runouts are entirely etched and where Optimal Media GmbH's "faintly inscribed "geometric" marks" appear, these are mirrored:
Variant 2: Side A '-=1', Side B '△+1', Side C '==1', Side D 'T=1'
Variant 3: Side A '1=-', Side B '▽+V', Side C '⟘+V', Side D '11△'
Variant 4: Side A '++', Side B 'V/\/\', Side C 'II/\', Side D 'V++'
Due to the nature of the hand etching, it can sometimes appear that there is a space between the letters and numbers of the Optimal Media GmbH label page, their runout scheme "is in fact always without spaces."

Anyone got a mispress? My Companian Disk is labelled as such, but the content is the same as the first LP.

I have what appears to be the European re-issued version. I am unsure if this version is correct as the inside cover has a photo of Led Zeppelin playing at Kooyong in Melbourne Australia. This makes me smile as I actually attended this concert ... I am the guy up the middle top right next to the guy eating the meat pie.

So what people talk about when they think this sounds bad is most likely the digital mastering. I myself was expecting this to be a great sounding issue but after listening I felt like it was missing something and still prefererad my older 70s issue. I thought it had a lot of detail with a clean press but for some reason sounded very flat and sterile. If you are looking for the best sounding new versions of these albums I hear that the Classic Records releases are a good choice. They are very expensive but are made by people who really care and do great mastering for vinyl. I myself am getting one and doing a blind test to see which I think sounds best between the 70s issue, 2014 remaster and 2007 Classic Records version. In the end its a good record and if you dont mind that much its just a great deal, but personally I would go for many 70s reissues that are in NM condition over this.
Update:
The Classic Records release by Grundman are easily superior for some albums and closer with others, they are never worse than the 2014 reissues however.
Equipment used:
Rega RP1 with Nagaoka MP-110 Cartridge
Cyrus 2 Amplifier
Sustem Fidelity SF-3050 Tower Speakers

Wonderful sounding repress and worth the money!
Is there a tiny amount of distortion on the RH channel just prior to and during the solo on Stairway? Comments?
