Quite a good remaster, that I picked up for a nice price. Both disks were flat and centred. Disk 1 side 2 had a few pops and crackles that needed a wet clean to get rid of. Disk 2 content was okay, but probably not something that I would return to very often to play.
Was good to still be able to hear the foot-pedal squeak of the kick drum on 'Since I've been loving you' :) -
Sounds great for the parts that can play, unfortunately mine came with servere manufacturing issues on the edge of side 2 making part of the first song unplayable.

Edited 3 years agoif you want an original - gotta save money and buy an original. don't expect this to sound like one. it's a great remastering for the present day. sounds like it was recorded yesterday, brilliant without being shrill. considering how compromised the original master was, this is a great job, and opens up a lot about the album. the companion disc is marvellous.

I have owned a copy of a 91 German press since 91. That actually sounds superior to this and certainly doesn’t suffer from such severe I.G.D . Not the cleanest pressing either with more clicks and pops than my 91 press , despite its multiple hair lines.
The remaster sounds similar to a C.D , shows off more distortion in heavier drum parts (possible it’s actually from the original recording ) . All in all I wouldn’t recommend except for the companion disc . Classic records U.S.A press are the ones to have but these days you’d have to sell your kidneys to afford the full set . -
Not a review but a heads up. I've had 2 of these delivered from amazon UK and both had 2 companion discs and no album disc. They were sealed so this is a manufacturer issue. If you have a sealed copy I recommend you check it. Nice packaging is all I can attest to.

Edited 5 years agoSo what people talk about when they think this sounds bad is most likely the digital mastering. I myself was expecting this to be a great sounding issue but after listening I felt like it was missing something and still prefererad my older 70s issue. I thought it had a lot of detail with a clean press but for some reason sounded very flat and sterile. If you are looking for the best sounding new versions of these albums I hear that the Classic Records releases are a good choice. They are very expensive but are made by people who really care and do great mastering for vinyl. I myself am getting one and doing a blind test to see which I think sounds best between the 70s issue, 2014 remaster and 2007 Classic Records version. In the end its a good record and if you dont mind that much its just a great deal, but personally I would go for many 70s reissues that are in NM condition over this.
Update:
The Classic Records release by Grundman are easily superior for some albums and closer with others, they are never worse than the 2014 reissues however. In this case its quite close though, probably the best of the 2014 remasters.

Edited 6 years agoOne of the best, Davis series remasters.
Quiet vinyl, that is essential, to the acoustic tracks. Try and find that on vintage platters.
I find this release, just as enjoyable as my top USA vintage albums. They are clean, as well.
Harder to obtain. One has to know the ropes. Both are enjoyable.
This is also where the 2 LP Deluxe is worthy.
Good bonus tracks, for the most part.
Easy for anyone to add to their collection.
One does not have to bother with any old, overrated vinyl being sold.
The single version is another good choice.

Awful Remaster. Thank God I bought the deluxe version. The companion album sounds so much better. Since I've Been Loving You (Rough Mix Of First Recording) Might be one of the best Sounding Led Zeppelin songs ever put on an album.
