Notes
Reissue of the 2008 remaster
Has a four page booklet. Back of the booklet and inner tray art are blank. A new essay is included on the inside of the booklet, which claims the original release date was Feb 12th 1992. R&S Records (the owner of Apollo records) claims an original release date of Nov 9th 1992 on their bandcamp site. Apparently the essay's release date is a typo, and is actually referencing the Feb 12th 1993 reprint where most of the early 90s copies came from.
Date and time of mastering, 11/26/13 09:27:17 PM, can be found stamped right next to the mastering SID code.

Edited 3 months agoThis is a stone cold classic and it always will be. That doesn't mean it has aged all that well; some of it's beats betray clearly when it was made. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but we must not kid ourselves and call this record timeless, since it really isn't. Nostalgia it definitely is. At least for me.

much more compressed compared to the 1992 CDs, I don’t really think it sounds terrible though, the album is already pretty lo-fi at bits anyway. I personally prefer the old discs. beautiful album regardless. i love the cd art on this one

Edited one year agoAn epic soundstage does this all time classic IDM album complete justice on this CD. Utterly immersive.

Edited 7 years agoMusic does not have to be complex to be beautiful. "Selected Ambient Works 85-92" is the perfect example.
A turning point album during the golden age of electronic music back in the nineties. The tracks take you through many emotions such as happiness with "Xtal", fear with "Hedphelym" and daydream with "We Are The Music Makers". The most incredible is that some tracks seem to have been created when Richard was only 14 years old.
The ambient atmosphere associates with some acid sounds and minimalist beats. 25 years old now but no feel of dated music or obsolescence.
An absolute must have for any decent person interested in electronic music.
