Gah. This sounds so good for a live album! Much more dynamic than the studio versions, and Robert’s really standing out. Happy I picked this up.

Edited 2 months agoThis album, the live performances are quite remarkable. Roberts voice over time reminds me of Neil Young in that it there is little change between the studio and the stage. Real, honest, and emotive. This Troxy performance is a perfect companion to the studio album. I think it is so much more alive and less sterile than the studio release. Songs of A Live World is an apt title. If I had to pick, I would take this album hands down over the studio performances. Lucky for us, we don't have to pick and choose.

The production and mix sur the studio album which is pain the ass in of the sound (at first listen I thought it was the inner-groove distortion I was getting at the End Song or that a needle needed a replacement). I prefer the live album and don't think I will listen to the studio anytime soon.

THIS VERSION of SOALW is THE ONE to get if you’re wanting an overall less dense/muddy mix. All the variants of the studio version are incredibly compressed. Yes, a few outshine others such as B. Grundman master and the “newer” Miles master cuts: 1) the single red SOALW and the double red SOALW w/ red Instrumentals 2) as well as the double lp package w/ the clear SOALW w/ black Troxy Live.
All have trade offs. Some layers you hear more out of the studio. Some highlighted on the Troxy live. Same goes for the 2-track Novembre.
Feels like a lost world down this Cure rabbit hole! -
Edited 3 months agoStill prefer the mixing of the real album vs. the live mixes. I dunno this sounds kind of lifeless and flat to me compared with the studio recordings. The songs were great at MSG in 2023, though, but I feel like they haven't been properly recorded in a live setting yet.
That said, this record is pressed very well... flat and quiet. I did have to crank the volume a few dbs above usual because I think this is still too much music for 1 LP. -

I don't know, either it's my ears or there's another pressing! The vinyl is much too flat for me, I have to turn my subwoofer up to full volume to get some dynamics in the recordings. The pressing itself is clean and flat, I don't get any background noise. But as I said, I expected more from the vinyl overall, especially since I'm absolutely thrilled with the studio version.

Vocals really shine on this pressing/version. I think it's actually a more pleasant way to listen to the album than all the other variations I've tried.
