I don't know if in the comment section best place to bring up this question, but why is this considered "1st press".. specifically this lable. I have Varient #5 matrix as this, but with a label that doesn't indicate MO such as this one : Led Zeppelin - Untitled. Begs the question, which came first, the labels without the pressing plant or the ones with the pressing plant? If you know and can share references, please share.

I prefer this version over the UK plum which I own. My pressing is cut hot with lots of energy and presence. The bottom is heavier than the UK plum with a thunderous punch. And Jimmy's guitar sound is incendiary (Almost Famous...).

I agree with the others who are praising this version. Best version I have heard (and I haven't liked many-most seemed too bright). Reminds me of my RL SS LZ 2.
-
Superb pressing! All the details come to life in a big way. Missing a touch of bass comparing it to my UK Plum... I love the bass on this album.. but the overall listening experience makes up for that. Really. My current favorite!
-
Am I the only one experiencing extreme inner groove distortion on A4 (Stairway to Heaven) or did the previous owner just play it too often? The overall noise isn't that much louder than on the other tracks.
-
Sounds the best of any LZIV I've owned/heard. I prefer it to my 200g Classic records pressing of this album also. Awesome soundstage.
-
Wow… this one sounds ridiculously good. RL LZII’s get all the love, but this Porky is mixed hot as shit. Also super dynamic. Typical noisy 70s vinyl material. Hot mix is one way to get over that and this one does it well.

Edited 6 years agoHave the Pecko 'A' side variant.
Pecko Duck 'B' side. White inner sleeve.
Supposedly the rare version.
Possibly, from UK stampers.
Read this tidbit, but not verified.
The million dollar question...
How does it sound?
This record sounds fantastic!
Excellent seperation. Nice tonality on the instruments. Good depth in the music.
Robert Plant's vocals, are clear and forward.
Everything is enjoyable on Led Zeppelin IV.
I like all of their releases. This is one of my favorites! Have a few versions. If you should have a cool, unneeded extra. Maybe send it my way. Always up for some comparisons.
Alright. Let's look at it a bit...
Stairway to Heaven contains a richness.
The quality of the Jimmy Page's guitars and Plant's vocals are sweet. John Bonham's drums and John Paul Jones' bass are well balanced. The finale does not get as wild, as some later IV offerings.
Everything is seemingly geared towards studio perfection. The goal is acheived.
Monarch pressings are excellent!
For sure Mate. Try one and see.
Cheers!!
