Notes
UK 1st press (A1U/B1U & A1U/B2U).
Subsequent pressings (A1U/B4U & A2U/B4U), have a different label layout, please see X In Search Of Space.
Some variant versions of this release have Side A ending in a locked groove.
This release has an innovative 8-page, 3-fold die-cut heavy card sleeve. Opened out, it forms a 'T' shape. This shape is printed black & white on inside and full-color on reverse.
When the lower page is folded up (to contain the liner) the sleeve then takes the form of a 6-page triptych - with the die-cut tab & slot linking together at the center. When locked 'closed' the liner/vinyl can still be inserted via the top opening.
The back cover has a blurred shot of Stacia dancing on-stage, with text that encapsulates the essence of the work:
"Technicians of Space Ship Earth
This is Your Captain Speaking
Your Captain is Dead"
"Printed and made by the E. J. Day Group, London and Bedford".
[The inside spread photos include of The Pink Fairies].
The package also contains a 24-page 'Log Book', packed with the minutiae of the band's 'flight' through space & time. This 'Log' is printed black on white 'newspaper-quality' paper.
Produced at Olympic Studios, Barnes. Track B2 first recorded at Air Studios.
Ⓟ 1971
Manufactured in England - A product of Liberty-United Artists Records Ltd.
Publishing info:
A1 to B3 - United Artists
B4 - Blue Mountain Music
(Note: There are probably many issues of this which have lost the log book, or original UA imprinted liner)

Edited one year agoThe record sounds great! It's actually pretty heavy(140-150g) too. It's crazy because most UK pressings I have are super thin. I can't imagine it sounding better than this tho! I got 6 years ago along with their first and next album after this. It came with the booklet and Doremi came with the rat star poster! It was 26 British Pounds and I'm so glad I got them all bundled since everything was in ex condition. All the original lps sound great but I've never listened to any other pressing so there might be a better one out there.

GEEEEEEZUS guys! Can anyone PLEASE comment on the F***'n SOUND quality! 20 F'n comments on the label and not one bloody comment on how the damn thing sounds. How about it...?
-
It's a design feature, X is a universal point of origin, that's why it's included, it has nothing to do with the title dummy. If the title on the spine and label were incorrect, the band would have had plenty of time over 50 years of reissues to correct it.

Edited 2 years agoeveryone pops a space in between X and in, looks like there in no space and has never been so. So is it Xin Search of Space meaning Heart & minds Search of Space. A little thought.

Discogs is very particular about documenting every detail regarding the various releases, especially in regards to the differences from one pressing to another of essentially the same album. This includes misprints, omissions, etc. So, why in the case of the "In Search Of Space" album are we to project an "X" where an X doesn't exist? The name of the album as stated on the spine of the CD case, LP jacket, the vinyl label and the CD face is In Search Of Space.

Paid a high postage and a tax and still had to find another 8 euro on my doorstep for import charges

The black and white photos on the inside of the cover were taken in Portobello road underneath
the road flyover. It was a benefit gig protesting about the rent act of the time.
They were billed as Pinkwind [pink fairies/hawkwind].
The police pictured were there to stop the gig but htey couldn't work out who was making
all the wibbly woo noises! Hilarious really, all they had to do was turn off the generator!
Julie Driscoll had played there the week before. -
I've got the copy with the log book still intact and in good condition, i've got 35 hawkwind albums many ltd editions but would never part with them lol
