Compared to the east german amiga version this one is like the other comments say a bit flat. Amiga beats the japanese pressing unfortunately.

Doesn’t beat my UK first pressing but still the quality here is evident and still a go to copy. Beautifully quiet vinyl, quality all round. Have to be careful as my original shrink wrap is very brittle but will likely never leave its plastic sleeve to preserve it. A prize in my collection. Not disappointed with the mastering as some have complained about here. Maybe if your system is at the elite level that nuances can be detected? On your average system with your average ears you will enjoy regardless.

Beautiful press! very high quality, very quiet press, very good master.
CBS/Sony has a very good reputation for great sounding pressings. -
a real good japan press . neutral and balanced sound mastering . i do have another Australia press which has slightly more lows but kinda lacking in the highs . it depends if you want uncolored sound then go with the Japanese press . more bass go for uk , Australia or USA as what the others mention here . sleeve quality is good with that dark blue obi wrap . have not heard the remastered 2011 / 2016 version but this 1st press is good enough for me . shine on :)

Edited one year agoThis is a high quality pressing that sounds great to my ears. Be sure to get a clean copy.
13/8/23 - i dont find the distortion some complain about. The overall tone is neutral, the way it should be in my opinion. I think the Japanese knows a thing or 2 about audio.
But if you prefer more punch rather go for a UK press. -
Not sure what a lot of the other reviews are on about, the sound on this is very disappointing, I have quite a lot of Japanese releases and this one just does not measure up sadly. The sound is very thin and anaemic, with no bass power at all. This is an album which really needs to sing and this pressing just does not get there, I have orig Jap pressings of every PF before this apart from the very first two albums and they all sound really good, especially Dark Side and Meddle, Meddle is better than the UK orig. So I had high hopes for WYWH but from the moment you put it on you can hear that it has no power, it doesn't sound that different to the 2016 digital master. It's nice to have as an orig pressing but I would never play it. If you want an affordable AAA copy that sounds great get the second German pressing (apparently the first had issues) The second sounds great and had the sound I was looking for and can still be found quite cheaply. Trust me on this if you are looking for a good sounding version of this album this is not the copy for you, later Jap copies may be better but the first is very ordinary.

Hi,
Anybody had a chance to compare with the 1978 reissue that got really good comments too?

Edited one year agoEdit 09/11/23 - I now have the Mastersound half-speed mastered Japanese pressing and have made the comparison. While I still feel this pressing does NOT lack in bass, the Mastersound is the clear winner in just about every conceivable category. Adjusted my rating from 5 to 4 stars (8/10) accordingly. If you're going to spend top dollar for the best possible version of WYWH, look to the Mastersound edition.
Exceptional sound quality. Vinyl was extremely quiet, to the point I thought something was wrong with my sound system until I heard the synths kick in. I know many Japanese pressings are somewhat lacking in bass, however, when the low bass tone at the start of "Welcome to the Machine" began I was VERY pleased with the amount and quality of the bass present on the pressing. I have never heard this album sound this good. I haven't heard the half-speed master yet, but I can't imagine it sounding much better. 10/10. -
Son parfait ! La version que j'ai eue ne craque quasiment jamais, ce qui renforce le concept de l'album !
