Notes
The soundtrack to the Stanley Kubrick motion picture, pressed on two 180 gram Purple and Blue Swirl discs. Mastered exclusively for vinyl, featuring previously existing tracks and classical pieces, along with four original pieces recorded especially for the film by composer Jocelyn Pook.
Artwork created by Alan Hynes and fully approved by the Kubrick Estate, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Inner sleeves are housed inside a bespoke die cut jacket printed by Stoughton Press. Included is an OBI strip that interacts with the cover design.
The cardboard sleeve is essentially a six Z-pack which has been assembled to appear as a single sleeve with two pockets, one opening from each side. Two of the s have die cut detailing that display the inner disc sleeves within. There is text to both side spines. The album came in an outer polythene bag with a perforated rip top opening instead of being shrink-wrapped.
A black vinyl variant was also released.

Another positive review of this pressing. Very clean, dynamic, great space and response. The packaging is beautiful as well, all around an excellent audio and visual presentation. I highly recommend picking up a copy if you can.

Simply stunning release! The Artwork and Packaging are incredible. The sound is also top notch, easily one of the best sounding soundtracks in my collection. After and cleaning it removed most of the pops and clicks but not all. For the most part it’s flawless.

Wish I could praise the quality of the pressing but it was a disappointing aural experience when spinning this album. I’m a die hard fan so I forked enough for 3 pressings of this album, 1 black, and 2 purple.. none of them sound excellent and I found only the black comes through as able(something is like muted, like it’s all one flat level with no dynamics at all). The packaging is worth the experience alone, and I give all those involved high praise for creating such a fantastic package. I am happy with this, I’m just a little sad that the pressing wasn’t better quality.

Edited 4 years agoI echo the other comments here about the sonic quality of this release (and the packaging!). It took me a while to remove the OBI and it now wraps around the sleeve in a vertical orientation which keeps it safe and allows you to remove the records unhindered. Like others have said, I'll probably store them outside of the sleeve regardless. The rainbow labels are a really nice touch to tie in with the visuals of the fancy dress shop and other recurring images. Really happy to have this as a massive Kubrick fan. What a Swansong of a film. I love all of them but EWS could well be my favourite.

Got to say that this sounds fantastic. Probably helps that I'm playing it using a valve pre-amplifier, but I'm really impressed, particularly with the orchestrated tracks. An absolute joy to listen to. I feared the worst when I saw the (ittedly very beautiful) cloudy purple effect plastic. Like other commenters I'm not overly keen on the delicate packaging. I'll be keeping the records themselves outside the sleeve as I'll be playing them often. Which kind of defeats the object of a sleeve really doesn't it? Having said that I'm not arsed given how good it sounds. Great job on a classic soundtrack. Whoever's responsible for manufacturing this has improved my life considerably.

Fine with the issue considering I got it for a good deal, but I would've been satisfied with the cover art from the original CD release (which is a brilliant cover). This is missing Kubrick's signature flare especially without that giant Futura Extra Bold. And the labels here seem to be chasing an art deco revival aesthetic? Odd. I'd on this unless you like limited variant stuff.

Sounds amazing, presentation is stunning, but, as mentioned already, quite tricky to handle...Surprisingly, still available from Mondo - get it now or moan about reseller prices later...
-
Beautiful presentation and packaging but I would recommend being extra careful with how you handle the slip covers. Great sound and a beautiful listen. I’m surprised that as I write this it’s still available on Mondo and not sold out yet.

Nothing against this rather expensive work of art for collectors with 70 bucks in the pocket, but id rather have a warner vinyl pressing with the original cover for 20.
