Mort Garson – Mother Earth's Plantasia

As a now previous owner of the Fifth Column ver. yes maybe it was a boot but it was still nice to have this gem on cd but I mean but after an earful of this remaster (from the originally sourced tapes) the fidelity is much improved. Theres now more clarity and a better stereo field much more noticed at lower volume levels especially the synth bass on a few tracks. The booklet although a nice repro of what I surmise was the original innards of the crusty vinyl's booklet or sleeve has alot of useless babble about plants but the additional retrospective insight that looks back on the release is warm and reflective on the genius that was Mort Garson. The music as expected in major keyed Moog and string synth goodness just don't even fathom anything like Switched On as Mort composed his own music and had a keen knob tweaking ability on the Moog.

No pants were harmed in the making of this recording…. They were dreamily kicking back on a Beautyrest mattress.

How does this compare to an original pressing?

Does anyone this? The premise seemed absurd but they were able to convince some people otherwise.

A film about 'finding Plantasia'. They took $10k on Kickstarter (none of my money, thankfully) and then, surprise surprise, disappeared!

This release has great dynamic range and sounds beautiful. Interesting fact - my cassette doesn't include the boot tape at the beginning and in the end of both sides.

Bad pressing. High end almost completely absent and impossible to make out even with an EQ.

The green pressing is a bit noisy even after ultrasonic cleaning. The mastering is enjoyable but a bit brighter than the original 1976 Homewood pressing. The ideal version would probably be somewhere in the middle but the original Homewood pressing is definitely superior if you can get one in good condition.

Be careful with new 8 tracks from kts productions. I bought a different new release from them and the thing was a mess. The shell wasn't even glued together. The pressure pads needed to be reglued cause they used vintage spring pads without testing them. Most need fresh glue. They fall off without much force. Then the audio was awful. Wow and flutter land. Way more then normal. It was a huge disappointment. With each one being made by hand the quality is all over the place. It's basically no better then a random homemade tape. Shame.

It's wild there is many different vinyl reissues of this, albeit some are unofficial. One has to wonder does the market really want so many coloured variations. 😅
