Various – Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange (Music From The Soundtrack)

Early pressing - still with Green labels , but just after transition from Kinney / Warner . Since Kinney dissolved in mid 1972, this could still be from 1972 with the updated WEA info on labels - , unsure if the cut is from the same laquers as Kinney. Exact same cover as the very first version.

Does anyone know the actual performance credits - other than 'A Deutsche Grammophon recording'? Thanks.

For any fan of the film (which ittedly is a bit like marmite) this is a must have

Incredibly dynamic, often overwhelmingly so, due to the origins of the various sources employed. The presence of hiss throughout suggests that this is as true to the original soundtrack as one is likely to get, except that this is stereo and the original filmic score was mono.

I have this in hand, in a gatefold. Possibly switched the records, but making a note in case there was a Pitman in a gatefold.

This is the best sounding version on the cassette format. I believe this one was the last cassette edition released at the time of writing. I just wish they used the original white background for the cover poster art instead of blue. Other than that, the music sounds great.

The copy I have has a white CD Jacket and the design is slightly different mine features a woman in a bikini kneeling in the triangle.

My favourite track on the entire soundtrack is the Theme from Clockwork Orange ( Beethoviana ). It sounds absolutely wonderful. I just found this first edition by chance. It sounds really good and shows you what vinyl was capable of in the early 70s. [ Playing this using an Ortofon 2M Black cartridge ]

Largely it's an album that is better in the context of the film, but alone it works quite well, with classic pieces from Beethoven, Elgar, and Rossini, that while firmly standards, nevertheless evoke the film (for better or for worse!) Wendy Carlos' pieces are truly great here, from her Title Music, to the sadly truncated "Timesteps" (which fortunately is available in its complete form on the companion soundtrack). It is a little weird to think while listening to this that it is essentially a soundtrack to rape and violence. But it was the juxtaposition that made it work so well and gave incredible pathos to those tragic moments on screen.
