A Really Special Record, from a time long-gone.
Same year as the first commercial Stereo records became available and the USA entered the space race.
Takes you back to simpler times, where you needed to use your imagination while listening to the radio! -
I owned a copy of this record as a child, and now have another LP as well as a ed copy on a home-burned CD, both in monaural sound. I was not aware that this existed in stereo until moments ago when trying to research the author of the script, Mr. Charles Crumpacker you remind us. As yourself, I, and a schoolmate who also ired(s) this recording, feel that it is _ENTIRELY_-appropriate for adults as well, and wonder how much Mr. Crumpacker was in with NASA and related when writing it. Were I to acquire it now in stereo, I would also wish to have it on a CD since my turntable, while it can work somewhat, is no longer in the very best of working order. Yet, while also not ideal, I could also listen in stereo on YouTube.

Edited 11 years agoThis was a soundtrack album for a proposed radio show on NBC in 1958, but the show was never aired, and they also made a pilot film of this for a proposed juvenile sci-fi TV series for Saturday mornings, which was only shown once in October 1958, but it was not picked up and the series was never made.
The voice actors, from radio and television, are Frank Erhardt, Staats Cotsworth, and Bob Hastings (later in McHale's Navy in the early 1960s), represent the cast. The music score was provided by RCA contract composer Marty Gold. The script was written by Charles E. Crumpacker.
This is an excellent, intelligently written science fiction program not just for kids, but also highly enjoyable for adults, and represented where the American Space Program at NASA in 1958 thought we might be in 1985 or so. Besides great acting, it also features an excellent music score and sound effects which heighten the illusion of reality.
The album cover art is also excellent and is very much like that of famous space artist Chesley Bonestell.
