T-Bone Walker – T-Bone Blues

This is fake stereo right? Or by magic some true stereo mix marketed as fake?

I had heard of this artist, but never heard any of his music. This was a blind buy for me. I'll be fairly simplistic...this is really good. It sounds great and it's tremendous fun to listen to. It is appealing music that has a lot of "rock and roll" elements to it, but it's not that far removed from B.B. King. Records are flat and fairly quiet. On my copy, Side C has some ticks, mostly concentrated in the first 30 seconds, along with a couple bigger clicks. Perhaps a couple more es through the Humminguru will remove that noise, or maybe not. (UPDATE: It did!)

Recorded sound: guitar sound is clear and vivid, no distortion. Decent piano sound, nothing great. But this is about the guitars. Like many outstanding mono records, you do get an illusion of some separation of instruments here.

I'm glad to have this. I will add in ing that the beautiful black and white photos inside the gatefold really elevate the look of this release. Wonderful artwork all around. Very nice release.

Very poor mastering job. Highs are exaggerated AND there is a hum that is not present in any of the pressings of this album (and I have most).

Mine has the black label with silver just as pictured here, but with the smaller depression around the spindle hole, not the deep groove. Obviously a different pressing plant than the deep groove. Any thoughts on pressing plants?

Perfectly fine Chicago blues. Not quite sure why, but T-Bone Walker has never moved me like other blues players from his era and locale. It feels very much like the blues you'd find at a lounge club or jazz club in the city during the late '50s. That's not a bad thing obviously, but T-Bone may have been blues at its most commercial. Again, that's not necessarily a criticism. I just find he trades in some of that rawness and yearning I love in Chicago blues, for palatability.

This reissue sounds fine, and not a bad way to go if this is the version you find out in the wild.

How does this sound? Looking for a copy sometime .

this is black label, 1959 1st pressing? Is this correct?
