Various – The Harder They Come (Original Soundtrack Recording)

I have no experience with the original pressing, but this is a compilation of singles (only the first track was recorded for the film), so recording quality varies. "You Can Get It If You Really Want" comes through a bit flat, without much bottom end. However, bass is very present on "Draw Your Brakes", and the bottom end continues to be present for most of the album, although sounds a bit suppressed on songs like "Sweet and Dandy" and "Johnny Too Bad". I'm not sure if this is the pressing, noting that Japanese pressings are supposedly known for cutting the lower end. "Shanty Town" stands out as being of lower fidelity (although quite good for that).

Overall, the highs appear to have been drawn down a bit, which, again, may be the pressing. There's a bit of channel drift/changing bias toward one side on "Sweet and Dandy" on my copy, and minor sibilance.

Sound is not phenomenal, but, also not bad, and, again, I'm not sure what it should be compared against. It's a great album all the same.

As good a sound as one can hope for in a lo fi scenario like a collection of reggae tunes! Nice job Wally at Capitol. Lively bass like you want.

Really vibrant sound quality, with legendary reggae artists on the bill. Tracks #2 and #7 have tremendous sub bass...a nice benchmark test for subwoofers.

This soundtrack from start to finish is a work of art. Amazing group of old reggae tunes. The movie is meehh, the soundtrack is out of this world good!
