Edited 2 months agoPretty “meh” pressing. Lots of noise in the right channel. Horns and vocals can peak pretty bad. Just lots of distortion throughout. Not the absolute worst pressing I own, but def top 20 worst pressings I own.
Does it get the job done? Yep. Am I upset I paid $20 for it? Nah. Glad to have it in the collection as a placeholder til I get a nicer copy. Definitely won’t keep me from listening til I do.
Pressing: 6.5/10 -
Mine came with a great Al Green button -- makes up for any other issues with the pressing. To a non-expert it sounds better than a CD for sure and replaces my old scratched up copy.

I have this edition - my runout is different however - FPH1137-1 SIDE A MRP 0043 A10 J POWELL; FPH1137-1 SIDE B BC MRP 0043 J POWELL. Anyone else?

Edited 6 months agoI don’t have another pressing to compare this to, but this sounds fantastic to me. This pressing company from NJ can apparently be hit or miss. But, this record is clear, with lots of separation (love hearing the brass vs. the main band). My copy is extremely clean, which obviously helps, but you can buy this pressing with confidence!

I figured i should at least review this as ive owned a copy for a number of years now. Its a wonderful album and it was recorded raw with little concession to top mastering. The house band sound is what makes Al Green and Anne Peebles unique so it doesnt matter too much.
Initially i had the black vinyl pressing of this one and hated it for the surface noise. I could live with the rather muffled mids and top end though. So i went for this one and prayed and mercy me the playback is alot better. Very quiet throughout. Due to the nature of this recording and mastering a little surface noise is less noticable on this record than many but still the green cut is much better than the black. I figured this copy will suffice.
But not long after buying this, id seen the Japanese made a 2019 RSD cut ltd to 200 copies for Europe/US... YEAH, SILLY RARE. Not only this but also rumoured to be AAA from the tapes. Well im sorry to say the green VMP is relegated into a rather muffled 2nd place. The 2019 Jap pressing is clearly the way this record is meant to be heard for better or worse. Its sad they only made 200 and im sad i cant afford to wear it out so i shall keep the VMP for more casual listens/guests etc.
This is still a decent press and this remaster is widely available. It still has lushness, warmth and low end but it rolls off the top and mutes the mids alot (presumably to hide the tapes shortcomings). If you can get a quiet copy its worth going for. -

referencing Let's Stay Together (LP, Album, Reissue, Stereo, Yellow & Black Swirl [Memphis Sun]) FPH1137-0
Overall a pretty decent pressing. Very little surface noise and pops. -
This pressing sounds incredibly good in my setup. The bass is very smooth and tight, the medium and treble are very EQed and very pleasant. The mastering seems perfect for a Soul music album. As it’s a reissue, the prices are very reasonable. It’s a definitive version in my collection. Strongly recommended.

Bought my copy new. Lots of surface scratches but plays pretty quiet. I wouldn't hesitate to pick this pres again.

Edited 8 months agoThe veil is lifted!!!
The Fat Possum reissue (and silly no. of represses) is rendered utterly muffled by this press. This one exposes the tape, warts and all, but it still sounds much better while being pressed better to boot. Ive had the regular black (noisy and nasty) and the VMP Green (quiet at least!) presses and they dont compare and are pointless to listen too now for me.
The jacket here is also nice and thick and feels like those of yore.
Good luck finding this pressing though!!!
