Edited one year agoAlbum Revolution #4:
Boy Oh Boy!!!!!!
When I first heard the "Title Song" to "Marvin Gaye's" "Let's Get It On" when I was Kid, it made me blush in 4 different colors (and keep in mind I was about to turn 3, and yes I knew what it was about!!!!).....Of course, by todays standards, "Let's Get It On" would be considered very tamed, but back then people were like "Ohhing and Ahhing".....But, at the same time, they also ate it up!!!!!!
This album was one big come on after another, and it probably set the Birth Rate a high (and is another Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel)!!!!!!
Going back to the "Title Track", "Marvin, with help from "Ed Townsend" (who helped him on the whole first side), made sure that the Music matched the "Come On" content....The opening "Wah Wah Guitar" notes just helps "Marvin" invite his "Lover" to the Bedroom....Then the rest is just History!!!!, making it another Goongungest #1 HIT.....
One of my favorites on here is "Please Stay (Once You Go Away)"......Once again, the way "Marvin" delivers on here is priceless!!!! "Keith Sweat" probably took notes from this begging t......
"If I Should Die Tonight" is such a smooth Slow Jam, that is stands to reason why it is a "Marvin Gaye Favorite".....
"Keep Gettin' It On" is only an extension of "Let's Get It On", letting you to continue on....
The second side starts with one of the best "Marvin Gaye" ts ever in "Come Get To This"....Again, it is an inviting tune, with "Marvin" delivering like no one else....
"Distant Lover" had to be the blueprint for '90's "R&B Slow Jams"...Even though it has Live Instrumentations, the Backbeat just Thumps!!!!!
"You Sure Love To Ball", is a catchy, but very naughty tune...Now there has been plenty of Saxophone playing on this album (courtesy probably by "The Crusauders" "Wilton Felder', not sure though).....But on this one, it is very pronounced!!!! This one led you straight to the Bedroom as well...Now, I know it may sound crazy to you Guys, but I personally feel like the moaning was unnecessary (even though it did go with the theme of the song)....
The only song that might have thrown the album off was the last one in, "Just To Keep You Satisfied.".....It was about "Marvin's" failing marriage to "Ana Gaye"..... It's a very good song, in fact, it's fantastic!!!!! I just don't know if it fits here though......
This album sold like crazy!!!! In fact, this one made "Berry Gordy" extremely happy....What it did was kind of taken "Marvin" back to what "Berry" had envisioned for him, but to the 10th Power!!!!! Even with that said, this album single-handed took "Marvin" from Pretty Boy to Sex Man!!!! -
Yeah my Dad (Willam MacMeekin) was the sound engineer on "Lets get it on" , probably his best work with a good blend of voice and instruments.

any of these pressings (they are all the same pretty much) :

sound phenomenal and it comes with bonus tracks. Blows my original copy out the water. Highly recommend. Cover art is a little over-saturated but the jacket feels like a nice glossy quality. They killed it with this one.
