Released on January 19th 1981, "Paradise Theatre" is the tenth studio album by Styx. Paradise Theatre was the Chicago band’s concept LP about a famous venue in their home city. Billed as the world’s most beautiful theater, it is regarded as one of the finest designs by architect John Eberson. Poor acoustics eventually led to its demolition in 1958.
This album is notable for being one of the first commercially successful records to utilize advanced laser technology to cut a 3D holographic design directly on to the vinyl playing surface of the disc which, when viewed near a light source, produces a dazzling visual rainbow effect of the graphic text design. 1st released in the USA as a promotional LP with different label designs that has track listing labels on both sides Paradise Theatre unlike retail copies.

Nice sounding piece of vinyl here. Good balance. Good mix. Clean, crisp, and clear. Also to note, the laser etching on side 2 does not affect the sound quality. -
Edited one year agoCan`t fit my copy in. Labels like this https://www.discogs.sitioby.com/release/4465127-Styx-Paradise-Theatre, but with AMLK 63719 instead of 32061 4 on the left, also with label on both sides of the disc.

Sounds pretty good! Haven’t listened to this record in many years and my sound system has improved greatly since then. Bass is nice and punchy. A little heavy in the mids, but I think that’s the mix. Etching on side B is cool. I had forgotten about that. -
A nostalgic five star rating, because this was one of the very first cassettes I ever bought with my hard earned allowance money when I was eight years old, and I wore that tape out. I don't give a hoot about anything else Styx has ever released, but I still love PARADISE THEATRE - DeYoung's cheesy pompous pop, Shaw's classic "Too Much Time On My Hands", and Young's "Snowblind" - only DeYoung's songs really fit any kind of theme, but it works as a good old fashioned album. This pressing has that fancy laser etching on the second side, but it doesn't seem to have any affect on how it plays. Nice dynamic range from top to bottom, and a lot of detail to the soundscape. My copy plays nice and clean, with virtually no surface noise. -
