"Ladies and gentlemen... How do?", the only thing I need to hear to know the next 37 minutes will rock...

My inner sleeve has a 'coloured in' version of the cartoon on the reverse side. Is this a different variant?

Edited 2 years agoFantastic pressing. My favourite studio album by The Damned. Contains so many excellent songs (love the thrash-iness of side one). I read so many negative reviews of current re-issues/ re-presses/ re-mixes, and with current new album prices somewhere in the mid £20's why not just buy an old copy like this? It sounds superb and can be picked up for pretty much the same price as a new one (you are buying a piece of history too). I go for second hand whenever I can (although obviously some of the ridiculous prices charged for some mean that it's not always a realistic option for me). Just my thaughts.....

The track Smash It Up (Part 1) was written by Captain Sensible as a tribute to the late great Marc Bolan.
Bolan had taken The Damned on his final UK tour (Dandy In The Underworld) in early 1977, and by all s were very impressed with how they were treated.
The last gig at the Portsmouth Locarno on the 20th of March, ended up with a jam session of Get It On featuring both bands. -
Edited 3 years agoOriginal Inner sleeve should have rounded corners for first press. Did any come with square?

Edited 2 years agoOr ...*"Nibbled to death ..by an Okapi" i think. Or you don't think it's a good lp? , maybe you should be " Nibbled to Death .."??... its certainly one of their best & a .great return for the 4th/5th??? line up..& the Capt showing himself to be a very capable guitarist & Algy laying down some super deep bass runs - the high point of 'Antipope' .it would have been good for 'Liar' to have the full blown drum workout as heard on the Peel session ,but it could have been regarded as 'a joke' ..that the band certainly were not - 'serious fun' ,I think .
Its the tracks that were selected for 7" releases that initially stood out, but many found Plan 9' to be their favourite & it became a regular in their live sets & while the musical intro to 'Smash it Up' ( for Marc ) showed some emotion the actual song took you to what the band were about ....& all these years on, it still certainly gives '3 days of Anarchy, chaos & destruction ' whenever you feel the urge..
And while not as critically popular as the same years ('79) 'London Calling' or 'Metal Box' in many ways it was as pleasant a surprise that this most chaotic of groups had dragged themselves back into the reckoning ....& then possibly sured it the following year with the 'Black Album'..?

Intro "Ladies and Gentlemen, How do?" by The Coronation Street Cast
Outro "Nibbled To Death Buying a Copy"? by Douglas Adams - The Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy
I would add this to credits, but my copy got nibbled to death -
no matter what fucking pressing you have... this will always stand out as one of the best records ever!!! a bloody milestone...

Although you don't note the cover type there are in fact two versions of the original Chiswick cover: 1. semi-glossy outer cover and darker colouring e.g 'black' border/title/background blue etc and the card inner is also semi-glossy and a darker 'black'. 2. Matt cover - lighter colouring border/lettering/blue etc and matt inner and lighter 'black'. In all other respects they are identical and the matrices are identical for thje disc contained within
