These Rhino Cure reissues have all been good in my opinion! Sound is crisp and clear and punchy. Also pleased to have the standard black vinyl over the picture disc press which appears to have become more common to find.

Sound quality is excellent on this release. One of The Cure’s most interesting albums. My copy came with the record in a beautifully single printed sleeve with all the lyrics on one side.

The Top is a very unique entry in the Cure catalog. Written around the same time Robert Smith was working with both The Glove and Siouxsie and the Banshees, this album touches on multiple genres and the tracks do not so much as flow from one another, but act as though the band is taking the listen through another door, and a different side of Smith, which reflects the stress and burden he was under having to produce so material at the time. Critics have been divided by this album, some calling it a "Psychedelic Classic" while others calling it "transitionary and forgettable". Whatever your position on the record, it cannot be denied how good this vinyl sounds. Amazingly present soundstage, great instrument separation, excellent mix, very dynamic, and just sounds incredible. Rhino has done a good job on these 180g Cure reissues. This is a must have for fans of the band, and a great addition to any collection of britpop and first wave bands, or the 80s in general.

Edited 5 years agoI've always had a soft spot in my lil gen-x heart for this album. My enduring impression is that it's a glimpse of things to come for the band as well as a bridge to earlier works like Pornography. Personal favorite track is Birdmad girl, made me feel seen at the time I suppose!
This specific edition sounds pretty good to me on my medium?-fi system - not much noise, no warping. The copy I got, the vinyl was inside a poly/paper sleeve, and there was another sleeve inside with the lyrics/artwork. Worth checking out! -
Pretty much exactly what Eric nine, one, four, seven, eight said. Get it for "The Caterpillar" alone. Totally worth it.
