Am I the only one that thinks Sublime were heavily influenced by the police or even this album alone?

Amazing sound!!! A great addition to my collection. I love the police after hearing the live on vinyl I had to buy this and it was a great buy.

One of my favourite records in my collection, played it so much it skips a little. Will need to get another copy in future!

This is really just a comparison of this pressing's mastering compared to the 2003' digital remaster. The 2003 remaster is more like a pop radio mastering with more punch and focus placed onto Sting's vocals and the lead keyboard. The overall effect is a more jangly recording that goes along with the tone set by Every Little Thing She Does is Magic.
By comparison, the original vinyl mastering is much darker. On the LP, Sting's vocals, the keyboards, and the guitars are all thinly compressed in the mix in a light wash of sound. It's a pretty humbling mix as Sting's vocals are not at the forefront and even slightly tucked back in the mix.
What we get in exchange though is a deep bass heavy soundstage where the synth, bass, and drum really have elbow room and take up most of the soundstage. The bass tones swell and play up the rhythmic combination of the band with the percussion being the primary focus.
It's honestly a lot like hearing these songs for the first time again. I was lucky to find a mint copy for $10 at my local store with a still amazingly quiet noise floor. I've heard these songs a thousand times on CD, radio, and digital but hearing them on vinyl revealed a much more sinister tone to the album that fell in line with many of the lyrical themes expressed on the album.
Overall a great record store find.

Great quality copy bought in high school (1981). The cover is somewhat beat, but the vinyl itself is in great shape. Hadn't played it in over 30 years and was blown away. Did some comparing with my sacd copy. I'm thinking I like the vinyl better. The sacd is cleaner, but the vinyl has this full/large sound that just grabs you.

Edited 8 years agoNot a big fan of A5-B3. The rest of the record is very enjoyable though
Edit: Omegaman is the bomb
Edit 2: A5-B3 have started to grow on me a bit, so I will up the rating to four stars. The first four tracks are still definitely the highlight of the record though. -
