This pressing is honestly very good. For how eclectic this album is, the mixing and mastering here does all the tracks justice.

Record sounds good to me. I’m sure if I had a chance to compare to 45 version I would choose the 45. But I still say this sounds good, and alot less money. I ittedly don’t love this band so much that I’m willing spend what the 45 rpm versions are going for anyway.

I feel like I was spoiled by starting my Mastodon collection with the 45rpm pressing of Remission- it’ll knock your socks off! This pressing is a slight step down from that, a bit more light surface noise (but not nearly enough to be really distracting at all), and the drums seem to sound a bit compressed, but that might just be the intent of the mastering. I think other than some light compression, this pressing is really solid! It’s punchy, dynamic and more spacious than expected- just make sure to give it a few wet cleans to optimize how good it can sound. This pressing is also a bit on the quiet side imo, and really shines when you turn it up.

Edited 6 years agoOne of the worst records I've ever heard (as far as sound quality). Obviously an already loud / compressed CD (which is alright for a CD) pressed onto wax with no care or concern. I bought it directly from the Warner Bros website with the light blue Crack the Skye which is an equal travesty.

This record is DEAD. QUIET. I'm very impressed with it. The dynamic range is as close to perfection as is humanly possible. Killer mastering.

this is the second and last mastodon album I will ever buy on vinyl, sound is not good especially the last tracks of each side.
tis a shame those magnificent gibson guitars come across so muddy and distorted .
