Reviews

  • Groovemaster-DJ's avatar
This release is sadly the McCartney fixation tampered with compressed and re-eq'd MONO mixes. The commissioned and paid f Glynn Johns' Stereo mixes came out in four territories USA, Canada, Japan and . Everywhere else followed foot stamping, toys out the pram, obsessive McCartney's it's my way or no-way demands.

This crazy situation came about because McCartney had sent a finished acetate to DJ John Peel to broadcast world exclusively on Peel's BBC Radio One show on Easter Sunday. McCartney and the fans waited with bated breath to hear the new Beatles record! What McCartney failed to , take on board, and accept, Radio One was still only broadcasting on the AM Medium Wave, naturally in Mono. The two frequencies allocated to Radio One were subject to atmospheric waving and a strong Pan=Europe station broadcasting on the next frequency up!

The sonics for Radio One were constantly awful waving in and out going tiny and then muffled distortion, the young teen public just put up with it and accepted it. McCartney was incensed with rage and disappointment as to how the population of greater London and beyond was hearing this very un-fidelity waving sound. He blamed the master saying that the mix was obviously very poor, he called a very bemused Johns and demanded that they put Get back right on that Bank Holiday Monday, presses were waiting to go, so in McCartney.s eyes this was urgent.

Johns had no real option but to turn up with the multi master tape and in McCartney's mind put it right. McCartney's fixation and demand was that Get Back should sound perfect when played and heard on the cheapest and low-fi record player and speaker.
Johns happened to have a old Mono Dansette record player in the boot of his car, it had just been repaired and serviced for Johns. McCartney used this little record player as his bench mark as remixes and acitiates were cut and played, cut and played McCartney's clouded thinking was that half the prob was Get Back had to be mono. Johns could not convince McCartney and just shut up, he wasted his Bank Holiday to try to appease McCartney's paranoia.

The rest as they say is history,
