Edited one year agoMy -4/-4 is a flat/glossy VG+ and is a really lovely play. I find the midrange the real standout on this pressing, plenty of detail, and tight soundstage. Mono is such much fun here, especially on more percussive tracks...but yes, Paul sounds like he is singing in a box on Michelle. XEX 579-4 RTL XEX 580-4 RML.

Edited 2 years agoThere are numerous cross-over copies between this one -- which should ONLY be for the -4 / -4 matrix -- and this one -- The Beatles - Rubber Soul -- which is a specific entry for the -5 / -5 cuts by Hazel Yarwood. My -5/-5 has a Garrod & Lofthouse sleeve even though the entry says sleeves were printed by E.J. Day in the notes.

Michelle doesn't sound as good as the rest of the tracks on the original mono pressing, with lots of harsh distortion on the vocals. Otherwise, this pressing sounds great.

i have -4/-4 matrices, and my copy sounds absolutely mind blowing. out of all my UK mono beatles pressings, this one is easily the best sounding. i was able to get a fairly clean copy as well.
-
Perhaps the LPs that look like this but have the -5 matrix suffix (as mine does) should be an entry distinct from the -4 cut. The -5 cut is the sought after Hazel Yarwood cut. I'm under the impression that the -4 matrix sounds quite different.

This is the real deal - the finest pressing of this album that there is.
Cut by the legendary cutting engineer, Hazel Yarwood, this -5 has the finest sound of Rubber Soul
Perfectly balanced with unbelievable dynamic range, this is a revelation. It’s well worth seeking out. Breathtaking. (с) mrchrisdaykin -
Edited 4 years agoMy copy matches this one, with XEX 579-5 / XEX 580-5 ,,, And it sounds amazing in its minty condition.
