Edited 2 months ago1973 a super year for The Soft Machine releasing Six and Seven, a must have for anyone into jazz rock fusion.
The sleeve artwork is interesting, a blueprint for war games on grid paper, and later in the 80's for computer games by Strategic Simulations Inc. -
Funny that Roy Babbington is clearly seen as playing guitar on several pictures on the cover/back of the record, but there's no guitar on the album, and he's only credited as playing bass.

Edited 4 years agoSoft Machine is avant garde modern jazz seemingly custom made for the acid trippers of the 70's. Hypnotic and tuned in to a deeper groove, for those of us embarking on what would turn out to be the greatest trip ever, Soft Machine allowed us to imagine multiple layers of timing, instrumentation and transcendence that payed back well in later lives. I always thought Seven, especially Carol Ann, was a high point.
