I feel like this amazing box provides the link with CAN's more experimental side, even a blurry connection (totally subjective this remark is...) with FAUST and VU. In any case, wow, the radicalism of many people in West those days was channelled in the group's music Paraphrasing the great, late Mark E. Smith, we should all be Damo Suzuki//

Edited 2 years agoReally top notch on the pressing quality, I bought my copy used when they were still going for $100. A couple of the discs had some wear (CRACKLING) right at the start of each side but the loud master of these records shines over it. I would definitely use the MoFi OG master sleeves in conjunction with the inserts the boxset provides.
Music is killer, I'd be on the lookout for a good priced copy to replace the VG+ copy I have... it's that good. -
It may seem peculiar to call a release effortlessly barrelling over the 3 hour mark "condensed", however in Can's seemingly ceaseless catalogue of unreleased recording sessions, condensed may be an understatement. The interplay between the Mooney and Suzuki tracks with Can's distinguished studio tinkering peppered in, make this behemoth an unconventional, challenging, yet unmistakably satisfying masterpiece. I've come to expect nothing less than meticulous detail and quality from the Spoon label, and this set of LPs is no exception.

This box set is a beauty. I have absolutely no use for the poster, but the large booklet is pretty cool and the design screams "JULIAN HOUSE!!!". A lot of good/great music, but also a fair share of throwaway crap.
But best of all: Pallas did awesome work here. The pressings are superb. Five heavy slabs of flat, quiet vinyl. Say what you will about the mastering (it's LOUD), but the pressings are second to none and I prefer the sound of the vinyl version to the CD issue. Never thought I'd say that, but there we are. -
This is a stunning document of one of s most innovative and intriguing bands. The tape machine was always running when Can jammed in their Inner Space Studio at Schloss Nörvenich and most of this stuff is simply fascinating. The songs presented in this box set, that is done with ion, are not only for hardcore fans, they have a strong right of being considered as essential material by the Cologne outfit. As mentioned before the sound quality is gorgeous, the booklet is nice, the poster's cool.
Only thing i would complain about is that the quality control hasn't been the best one here. Bought 2 copies of this set when it came out, had to replace one cause some records showed surfacewear, the second even having two audible scratches. The replacement copy showed again surfacewear, but for heaven's sake nothing that affected playback. -
This sounds unbelievably good on vinyl. The lps are pressed thick and are loud. The packaging is incredible. Easy to get lost in.
