Hard to say this is an "Entirely Analogue Production" when the master tape is digital. Alan Parson's website indicates this. Great sounding album though.

This sounds spectacular. But note that I do not have any other pressings. I have a pretty hiend system and this recording and pressing just shines!

While this, without any doubt, sounds very good, I have to agree with @leonthepro on some of the aspects. I finally bought it after a lot of thinking, I initially wanted to wait for the MFSL 45 version but, to be honest, a 45 would split this album too much and from my experience with Alan Parsons (having in mind the I Robot 45 MFSL) while the sound quality is really good, the flow and the concept have to suffer a lot.
So how about the sound? Side A is toned down a bit in of volume and not so dynamic, I'd say. I feel the need for a bit more oomph and space in some areas. The bass is ok, could've been a bit better but I think that's what the master sounds like as well. The drums have a really good presentation on this version, they're well staged and you immediately can pinpoint their location. The cymbals and hi hats are ok, not too loud, a bit distorted in places (beginning sequence of mammagamma for me sounds a bit off) but nothing distracting. Side B is a bit louder, more dynamic and much more present, but it retains the characteristics of side A such as modest bass, great mids and balanced highs.
I'm not blown away by the sound but I'm pleased with it. Overall we have a flat and neutral presentation of a great album and concept. The vinyl is perfect in every way, I wouldn't expect less from a Pallas pressing. I think the MFSL 45 will be better in those areas that this version lacks, but I'll have to think about buying it. For what is worth, this Speakers Corner version is a very good one for the price. -
Reading a couple of the negative reviews saddened me as I sit hear listening to my album.
I am very much enjoying the mastering and quality of an 180 gram audiophile analogue pressing. Whisper quiet and dynamic. There may possibly be another pressing that equals or could possibly even sur this pressing but there is no need to seek another out if you own this. -

Edited 4 years agoWith nothing else to compare it to I would say this is good.
It has a mostly fully realized soundstage with high and low end. Everything sounds well balanced and this may be seen as flat for some. I can agree to an extent as I often want a little more presence to the vocals on this. Drums are very clear throughout and have a distinct MFSL sound to the cymbals, which is quite lush, but in some cases too hot and harsh.
My biggest complaint is that there is a lack of cohesiveness between tracks. Softer songs are generally quieter and those constitute mostly of side A while side Bs rock tunes punch better but seem louder and edgier too, demanding a volume adjust from the listener. For example, Silence And I´s orchestra just does not swell dynamically as Id want it to, perhaps because its an inner groove track. I wish Rob would have more confidence in the customers setups, this is an audiophile record after all. You're Gonna Get Your Fingers Burned on the next side is then much hotter in comparison and its very jarring as those cymbals or high hats strike through too loud if you dont adjust.
I was afraid of hearing a modern MFSL EQ boosting bass too much but nothing feels too muffled, although I actually do wish there was more bass a lot of the time as well.
One of the main reasons to buy a reissue like this regardless of how you like the mastering is the quiet vinyl. Pallas delivers a more silent vinyl than probably any original pressing.
Im happy enough but Ill be interested to compare with some original press someday.

I was severely disappointed with this copy reading all the great reviews. By all means it’s not a bad pressing don’t get me wrong; it’s flat, quiet and looks good. It’s very balanced but it’s kinda flat compared the the original. Syrius lacks the lunch and dynamics I love so much. Have t give the record a cleaning and try again.
