I think I actually prefer this release to the Tone Poet. Both are fantastic, but the Cisco (this) has a little more energy to it. The Tone Poet comes across as a little more polite and polished. If I had to guess, this Cisco is more representative of what you would have heard in that Parisian studio in '64.

O’kay, I’ve listened to both this and the Tone Poet and you will be happy with either you choose. If you only heard one you would be satisfied with it. So if $ is important buy the less expensive one.

I have always appreciate Donald Byrd and he has never sounded better than he does on this album! Of course Dexter always sounds great. This is a great pressing and as far as the album is concerned; it doesn’t get much better than this! I have the Tone Poet and I’ll have to compare the two🤔

FYI.... this has been scheduled for another AAA Kevin Grey reissue, on the Tone Poet label. Hopefully it'll be a nice gatefold too!

Edited 9 years agoThis reissue is one phenomenal sounding piece of vinyl. It's got the feel of one of the recent Music Matters releases. Art Taylor's drums sound super live. In fact, everyone sounds good on this. I've never heard an original though.
