Edited 5 months agoI was really looking forward to this LP. I try to source well made vinyl because as we all know it can get pretty bad when it isn't done properly. When it is done properly, even from a digital master, it can blow you away.
This one is flat. Not dynamic. Needs EQ on almost every track, very LF heavy. The mids are dead and lifeless. Highs sound like a blanket is covering everything.
A Shibata stylus brought out some life, but not enough. A collection like this would be awesome to see in the hands of Mobile Fidelity or Rhino High Fidelity and let Kevin Gray give it a go.
I imagine they just took the digital master from the original CD offering and didn't bother using a non-limited version? Who knows? It's a shame to hear such a talented artist's music sound so dull. -
My copy has the correct two discs, but both are labelled Side C and D. I'm tempted to return it but as long as the content is right, I don't care. Odd flaw, never had this happen before.
The sound is decent but not spectacular. -

After the first initial listen through both albums, they need another vacuum wet cleaning as there’s too many ticks & light pops in sections for my taste. It is very mid-low frequency heavy, not overly bass heavy, just lower frequencies heavy, probably around 100-150 Hz range. Some songs sound better than others, “Ironic” sounds pretty good but “You Oughta Know” sounds awful for example.
It’s nice to have this finally on vinyl and it’s certainly within the possibilities to EQ it to get a bit better sound from it, but why should we have to do that? Listening through large floor standing speakers and sealed powered subs, this is a disappointing sounding release. Overall sound quality ranges from 3.0 to 4.0, more around the 3.0 range unfortunately. -
It’s important to note: the LPs of this album (all variants), unlike the digital editions, have the studio version of “Uninvited” instead of the “Unplugged Live” version.

Quality is impressive. Clear throughout without any snaps, crackles or pops... a great collection of her best.

The sound quality is just a tad bit lacking. The volume level is low, and things are a bit muddy sounding. However, it's a very quiet pressing with no surface noise and otherwise decent. This compilation is outstanding and it contains a number of non-album gems!

For how much music is on 2 discs (close to 1.5 hours, I believe), the quality is extremely impressive. Not distortion, clicks, or pops. Masterfully mastered. I would recommend this version (the black vinyl) to any Alanis fan, though I have not tried the colored/clear variations to compare.
