Edited one year agoBrilliant set of recordings which are bootleg quality/fan based releases. These are not audiophile so look elsewhere if that's whatchaafta. If you're a real fan however, well, this is brilliant. A fantastic journey through the early years beginning with rare versions from Gabriel Genesis to Side 3 which kicks serious arse, Behind the Lines Complete is fat, really fat. And Then We Have Knebworth. If you love Genesis trust me, you'll love this. Designed to be played LOUD. And if you're not a die hard Genesis fan, shut ya whingeing, move on and More Fool You.
Adding to this after listening tonight. These recordings as stated early might not be audiophile however, they're damn good, damn good. Instrument separation, deep Rutherford bass n bass pedals and, you know who is drumming and when. Replete with a wide sound stage topped with sublime sprinkles of percussive fairy dust. -
Nice "Best Of" from the 5 CD-Release. Song choices are great. But it has some pressing flaws. A little warp on the second record and some crackle on the first and third. Sound is decent for radio shows. Old recordings with Peter Gabriel sound great. Not a great release, but nice if you get it on a discount. After all, I would opt for the CDs.

In my Europe version, pages three and four wobble slightly. If you listen properly, you'll notice it straight away. So the whole second LP is for the bucket...
Bei meiner Europa-Version "eiern" die Seiten drei und vier ganz leicht. Wenn man richtig hin hört, fällt das direkt auf. Also ist die komplette zweite LP für den Eimer... :( -
Really glad this was issued. For me no issues with sound quality, it gets better as you work your way though all the sides. Side3 with Lyceum 1980 Duke is a killer as is Side 5 Wembley 1987, just great to hear these again and of course the Friday Rock show interjections. RIP tommy Vance. Just took me back to my college days in the 70's.

The mastering is very well done. I have some of the bootlegs of the early recordings, and the Stagnation and Harlequin versions here sound so much better without sounding "embellished". Plus, this is a really nice compilation live album, not representing a Genesis "era", but the entire corpus or what the band is artistically, from The Musical Box to Driving The Last Spike. Not hit-centered too, which is very nice, although the hits are there, but more as a natural part of the entire body. The Duke-songs on here are easily the better versions compared to the ones on Three Side Live. I'm absolutely chuffed with this release. Might even get the CD version too, but I don't really miss the tracks left off here, mainly because this compilation is such a consistent effort. And again, it sounds amazing.

For me this is a nice release. They did not choose to put out all the shows in a complete version. They could have milked that concept for some years. Instead they chose a compilation. That is what we get. Yes, I would love to see a complete Seconds Out show, and other shows. But as longtime Genesis fan I finally have a good vinyl cut from the Lyceum show. That is worth it's money alone. Forget about Revelatory Genesis. Buy this one. It sounds way better!
Cut by Miles Showell, they tried to make this as good as possible. It sounds a bit flat in places, but I guess that's because of the sources. For die-hard fans I recommend it, though you probably have (equally) good sounding boots from most recordings. For new fans it's a good addition to your collection to hear this incredible band in good shape and form. Performances are outstanding.
