46 years between purchases, but this is a superb mastering and pressing. The quieter ages especially are a vast improvement on my original copy which is definitely showing its age.

At the outset, it needs to be understood that not only was I at this concert, I was in the middle of like the 3rd row. It's hard to convey how extraordinary the Showco lighting was together with the sound set up that Genesis were using, which truly was exceptional. So for those of us who were giant fans, the evening was quite literally spiritual in character, I've never ever gotten over the experience of that evening, to the contrary, it's a great part of the reason why I became the kind of audiophile I did, the kind who had quite high end kit, precisely to place Genesis in the living room whilst enjoying Seconds Out almost as much as I did that evening in 1977. I have multiple versions of it actually, I have this LP, which I consider outstanding; a very original US LP pressing that I also think is very good and pure analog of course, and an earlier reissue that's not so great really. But it's fair to say that this LP which I bought as soon as it released literally changed my life and in a wonderful way. When I crank this up, it's basically time travel, it's magical, religious even. When Musical Box ends, I feel the way the audience sounds when they just explode as the song ends, and I recall that I was lucky enough to witness that very same reaction from the audience in my live venue, I was certainly on my feet going a little bonkers, this is, after all, one of the truly great songs in rock full stop. But I want in conclusion to emphasize that I consider this particular pressing pressed at Optimal to be profoundly musical and dimensional and full of body, I love this pressing and recommend it highly. I have a recollection of the concert that allows me to say that I feel that this pressing is quite faithful to the live concert. You can't go wrong with it, really.

Edited one year agoGreat record.
Each sound is very well seperated and it sounds really clean, there is no surface noise.
The only downside is that in some vocals of the songs on the 2nd side of 1st LP there is slight distortion when PC sings. I think I just got bad luck but it's not that really noticeable.
In conclusion, I'd recommend this release to every Seconds Out enjoyer. You get a fresh record that's very well made, there is nothing missing from it. -

Wow! This is really a great pressing and Mastering. The band sounds amazing. And the pressing is perfect, dead quiet.

Unbelievable!
What a separation, guitar, dept, bass. You are in Paris for about one and a half hour. Still an amazing album, but now even more so.
One for the deserted island...

Edited 4 years agoConcur with what eltigreferoz and hewitt2 said about definition and separation. This recording has always been a great mix, what struck me first on this one is the low end. Bass lines are detailed (also the bass pedal floor). Also the drums are crisp, snare drum has a snap to it. Cinema Show is a highlight. The discs play dead quiet.

I have the Atlantic first edition release and there are a lot of great improvements here. More prominent vocals and low end. Better separation of guitar from the keyboards. Carpet crawlers has a great sounding bass drum thump (although a bit of crackle at the beginning) and the drum duet at the coda of afterglow really separates the two drummers beautifully. Same as the mini drum battle during the cinema show - you really get the feeling that you’re there.
The packaging is great and quality of the photos is sharper. Anyone interested in this recording is highly recommended to purchase this pressing. A+.
