The good: It sounds gorgeous as others have mentioned.
The bad: Judging by the price point, there is way too much surface noise, tape hiss, pops, clicks, and distortions scattered both discs. It is a very well mastered album with a slew of technical problems. So for $170 (with S&H included) it is not worth it. I received a replacement copy a way back, but the problems persist sadly.
PS: The Bill Evans - Waltz For Debby 45 RPM UHQR is gorgeous by the way. -
Edited one month agoThe mastering and sq musically is unbelieveably top notch.. BUT.. there is substantial surface noise all the way through and some crackling that is just unacceptable in this price range and for it is d to be dead silent top quality pressing. The 2nd record is also warped. I never thought that my 20€ digital source repressing would sound better just because it is much quieter. I mean, really.. This UHQR sounds pretty ok although there is fair amount of surface noise. The mastering is that good.
Still I'm wondering, where is the quality control of QRP and AP? How can they let this happen with this kind of high end product? I have low expectations for the quality to be bettered by replacement as many fellow consumers here have said this is a common issue. In the long run, I believe the lack of quality control will effect radically in people's consuming desicions. With this kind of money (200€+ in Europe) you expect better quality out of the pack. It's the same whatever you are purhchasing. For the 10 times money you spend compared to a regular article, you expect exceptional quality without ever having to think about whether the quality is good or not. -
Edited 2 months agoNice mastering but AWFUL PRESSING. Just see comments below. AS MANY OTHERS RELEASES FROM ACOUSTIC SOUNDS IN THE LAST 2 YEARS. CRACKINGS, POPS & TICKS EVERYWHERE. NO MORE QUALITY CHECK, ONLY BUSINESS <<<<< DON'T BUY. AVOID >>>>>

I can see why some people say this is the best sounding record in their collection. They might be right.

Edited 5 months agoNice but way overhyped both musically and, here, sonically by these UHQR reissues. The 2002 Classic Records Stereo issue (played with EMT cartridge) and the 2013 Mono issue (played with Miyajima mono cartridge) are both already so good in comparison to the 45 UHQR that to me it wins mostly by its pressing quality itting that it even has audible centering issues (measured by DS Audio eccentricity detection device before and after centering.)

Yes, this sounds excellent. Incredible, even. But, the QC is a real problem for a product that is priced like this one is. I am on my third set of replacement discs, and I have yet to get a copy that does not have audible pressing defects (pops/clicks, noise, etc) on at least one side, if not multiple. If this was priced at ~$60, a lot of these issues would be forgiveable and I probably would have been just fine with my first copy. But, for being priced at what this is priced at and d how it is d, I expect perfection and have yet to get that. Maybe I'm being too hopeful and I also do not have access to an ultrasonic cleaner to get a perfect disc, but I have to say I am equal parts impressed (incredible sound quality, pristine high quality packaging, the works) and disappointed (quality control).

Edited 6 months agoDEFINITIVE!
To be fair, the AP33 cut had - for me - already become the best ive heard this and subsequently had rendered the Mofi 45rpm inferior, but this adds a layer of dynamics and clarity over the 33 that simply makes it even more definitive. At the same time you would say this was brighter, which for many is a negative but unless your system is too bright its almost certainly a good thing. There is certainly a seductive warmth and romance to the 33 that is hard to refuse and that made me all fuzzy inside and hearing this after for the first time does not fully bring that feeling and instead replaces what bit of that feeling is lost with a WOW-ness instead. I suspect i will keep both for now but either way i can honestly say they just sound lovelier than the Mofi edition which is far from bad but just doesnt have the realism or beauty of these AP's.
Now, as has been mentioned, if AP would release an SACD we can have the definitive digital version too! -
AP should release this album on SACD. The quality of pressing and package (My album jacket got many small scuffs) is not worth the price.

I am on my third copy being replaced due to surface noise. The record sounds amazing, but I think I will end up returning it for a refund because I'm not paying $150 for a noisy record.

Yet another UHQR that is warped! $150 for an audiophile product that they’re not capable of pressing properly? What happened to quality control that they’re proudly describe on the inserts?? I have several Acoustic Sound purchases that have the same quality issue; warped or off centered or both… :(
