What hasn't been so widely d is what you DON'T get: the final 1 minute & 10 seconds of "Pigs (3 Different Ones)". It isn't there, it's gone. Completely. It does not continue on program 4 which would have been infinitely preferable to its just not being there. The sheep noises that are at the true end of the song have been edited in to signify the-end-of-the-song-as-far-as-the-8-track-tape-is-concerned at 10:16 (the song is 11:26 according to the FLAC file I used to time it against [2011 remaster]).

Putting a Pink Floyd album on an 8-track is generally a challenge, due to length of songs as well as the structure of the album and the effects of re-arranging tracks. I think a very good job was done with this one. For starters, as mentioned, Pigs on the Wing is combined into a single song with a solo by Snowy White in the middle, which is missing from non-8-track versions. It's a great solo. Granted the song make for excellent bookends, I think it's a fair trade-off if a compromise had to be made to either cut-up additional songs or change Pigs on the Wing. Personally, I prefer it as a single song, especially for shuffle play as it seems incomplete to only hear one part of it.

As far as cutting on the rest of the album goes, Dogs had to be cut, however I think they made the cut at just the right place, in a sort of natural fade-out, and when it flips, you get brought back into the song again with the full impact at the end. Pigs and Sheep not being cut at all.

Sound-wise, at least on my copy, it's over-all decent for an 8-track. As far as the label goes, I like that it has just the album artwork on the front and the track listing on the back, as opposed to some 8-tracks which have title tracks on the front.

For those who don't actually know, the song was originally 2 tracks (as per the LP's and CD's. Due to timing restrictions on an 8 track, the two songs were spliced together with Snowy White's guitar solo JUST for the 8 track. I think that the album should be heard as it was meant to be by the artist(s). This version should be classed as an oddity only.

Snowy White's guitar solo on the full version of Pigs on the Wing is outstanding. It's a shame that, for the non-8-track versions, it was removed and that the song was split. Not only is this a great, underrated song, it's the only one on the album that doesn't require an enormous time and emotional commitment to enjoy. Furthermore, it's also the only one that carries any sort of positive message. This is the definitive version of the song.
