I bought this used in the late '80s without realizing is was an ideal CD version. But it really does sound fantastic on a good "vintage" dedicated CD player.

This is the One! Of all versions, including the latest Analogue Production's versions, this IMHO, is the richest and strongest sounds you will hear from DSOTM.

Edited one year agoHi everyone! I have what appears at first glance to be some kind of anomaly. The matrix (CDP 7 46001 2 35-3017 33B2) matches what is listed on this release for the Harvest Records first issue. However, the booklet and covers look to be from the Capital Records 2nd issue, and there is no "TO" in the matrix. See also: http://pinkfloydarchives.com/DUSCDPF.htm#DSOTM
Can anyone corroborate this? -
Edited one year agoSee you on the dark side of the moon ... Better sound than the 70s US Capitol LP I have ...

I noticed something odd after running Sox on ripped files. Listen carefully at the gapless transition from Track 2 On The Run to Track 3 Time. Before Sox, the transition is perfect. When listening to files after deemphasis with Sox, there is a slight "pop" between tracks. It's not loud, but if you use headphones and turn up the volume during the quiet transition you'll hear it. My files run perfectly before sox. I ripped with EAC and am using foobar2000 to play. Anyone else hear the pop?

Incredible, might be the best I've heard this album sound. You have to have a CD player with pre-emphasis to play this properly(most dedicated CD players do). Turns out my DAC couldn't properly decode the audio and it sounded too bright. Plugged my headphone amplifier in to my Sony CD player and used the on-board DAC, which sounds fine. But this CD is so incredible it hardly matters what DAC you're using provided you have a good pair of speakers/headphones.

Edited one year agoDefinitely The Best Sounding Dark Side Of The Moon On CD. Super Detailed And Crystal Clear, U Can Absolutely Hear All The Details No Matter How Big Or Small And It's Not At All Compressed To Shit The Way The More Modern CD Remasters Have Been. I Would Recommend This Over The MFSL Gold CD But That Disc Is Still Very Very Good For It's Ambience And Overall Immersion When Listening On Headphones But Just Doesn't Have The Power, Wide Stereo Space Or Crispness Of This One And Unfortunately Has A Weird EQ To It Which This Disc Does Not Have, It's A Perfect Reflection Of The Master Tapes Or At The Very Least As Good As You Can Get On CD That Isn't A First UK Vinyl Pressing.
-
I can here details I've never heard before -- including nicely defined reverbs and delays. This is clearly superior to the 2016 vinyl version, or any other version I personally have heard so far.
-
I did my research and this is supposed to be the same master as the "Black Triangle" at a more reasonable price. Compared it with the SACD version and I preferred this one. May check out the 2016 vinyl at some point, my vintage LP is a generic American repress and it is pretty scratched. My ears tell me this is the best one in my collection.
