This sounds excellent. Clear, bass heavy and in your face on silent flat vinyl, just the way it should be

Pretty damn great pressing. Great remaster, loud and in-your-face. Quiet pressing with no clicks or pops. Plus, it's cheap!

Edited one month agoUPDATE 03/25/25: I learned too much about this release…needless to say the life of this album was a cluster fck. When you have time search the history of the engineering of this record. What I learned is there are three sought after copies (minus the box set which is highly coveted). The holy grail is the first release mastered by Robert Ludwig. This is known and the “hot mix”. It has RL on both sides of the deadwax. You can find them on eBay starting at $500+. Second best is the remaster from Classic Records done by Bernie Grundman. If you can find one (rare) they start at $300 and go up from there. Third is the master by George Piros. Both sides of the vinyl have TGP in the matrix etching.
I got myself a NM/M copy of the George Piros master from eBay (r15125075) for $75. The sound is much better when compared to this release. So net = if you are having trouble finding a decent reissue you might want to get yourself of one the three listed above. I’m finally happy with how this one sounds. It’s not perfect but the washout of the cymbals is gone and I hear a lot more detail and effects that I didn’t/couldn’t hear before. Happy to add this one to my collection as a decent representation of the LZ II.
UPDATE 03/17/2025. So I purchased a new copy from Tower Records and although it has different matrix info, side one of this pressing still sounds like sh@t!! I don’t think side two is all that great either to be honest. See variant 12 for my release/matrix info. I don’t understand how this release is so damn poor sounding compared to the others - it sounds redlined/distorted throughout on side one, quiet sections with drums and bass are OK, but as soon as you add cymbals and higher notes on the guitar it’s terrible. It’s unlistenable. Side two doesn’t have that distorted sound, but it sounds like you are listening to cassette. It’s like they adjusted the highs on side two to adjust for the hot level on side one. What a mess.
I’m glad others have a nice copy to listen to. At this point I may just have to get me a VG+/NM original on eBay. I’ve spent $60 so far and have nothing to show for it. Uggh.
UPDATED: 03/07/25: I went to go see “Becoming LZ” this weekend and it got me thinking I haven’t played my LZ LPs in a while. Let me give them a spin. I played Physical Graffiti - sounds fantastic. Played LZ 1 - sounds awesome. Played In Through the Out Door - wonderful. I go to play this one and WTF happened!??!?!! This pressing, or just my copy, sounds like absolute sh*t. It sounds like all the levels were red lined. I normally play my LPs about level 30, I had to turn this one down to 15 and it still sounded distorted and is most notable with cymbal crashes. I see one comment on here about bad German pressings (this one does have a “made in ” sticker) maybe thats the reason. I purchased this back in 2021 from Walmart…how I didn’t notice it back then amazes me.
I’m going to order a new one and see how it sounds. I cannot have this PoS copy in my collection. I’m so pissed right now. I had to play IV to end on a good note and bring my blood pressure down! :) This one sounds fantastic…as they all should.

You’d be hard pressed to find a better version of this that isn’t in crappy condition. worn out, and noisy. One of the best of the new remasters, it has all the bass, punch, and warmth you would want from this album on dead quiet and flat vinyl. Completely happy with this one unless I ever discover an original RL.

This one is solid. Compared it to my old Canadian 1st press that’s seen lots of action and this one is the keeper. Good dynamics. Clean right out of the sleeve. Good bass.

Jimmy Page, the original producer on all the Zeppelin albums. oversaw the remastering on these 2015-16 releases as he wanted to make them sound good, to this end i think he has succeeded despite what many critics say, i have compared all of them to the OGs and they all sound great on my modern playback system (Linn LP12) sounding slightly smoother and little details in the mix i had not ed hearing before, buy with confidence!

A banger, as they say.
As good a pressing as you could ask for.
Good price? Check.
Dynamic soundstage? Check.
Clean, flat vinyl? Check.
Picture frames vibrating? Check.

Clean, flat vinyl. crisp remastering. Really detailed for the low, mid and highs. I’d say same league as the RL versions (bar the German pressing with Side 2 problems 😄). Dead quiet between tracks as well. Go get it!
