Miles Davis, Gil Evans, and an expanded brass and woodwind ensemble entered the studio to record one of jazz's most beloved treasures. Sketches of Spain.
Inspired by a flamenco performance Davis attended with his wife, s, and helped largely by the arrangements of the genius himself, Gil Evans, 'Sketches of Spain' is an incredibly intricate, emotive and picturesque journey through some of Davis' most meticulous, memorable and experimental work ever. A great album that demonstrates Miles' first attempt at creating a unique atmosphere in his music. There are influences from classical music here with the opener, 'Concierto de Aranjuez: Adagio' containing orchestra instruments such the oboe, and flute which are generally not heard in jazz recordings.
