This still largely overlooked UK-only 12-inch, with the extraordinarily fabulous post-production of Dave Dorrell, contains, in my opinion, arguably one of the best remixes ever made. It's almost surreal what the two studio magicians have re-created here...
With their out-of-this-world House remix, the two Brits truly took one of Janet Jackson - Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 album to new heights into the dance music stratosphere and beyond 🪐.
Hardly a week goes by when I don't take this copy out of my collection. It's just so beautifully made. HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION for this Dave Dorrell remix masterpiece 🤩👍👍. -
PS: Funny story: Like most buyers at the time, I almost missed out on this record because so many of Janet Jackson's songs and of course "Alright" were already released individually on vinyl on various formats particularly in the UK with different mixes as special collector's editions, picture discs or limited DJ packs etc.
So it was easy to lose track. You also couldn't use the Internet for research back then because it wasn't available until years later 😉.
Luckily for me, it was Dennis from the popular but now long-defunct DECADANCE RECORDS on Christopher Street NYC who strongly insisted that I should definitely listen to and buy this record because in his opinion it was truly something special.
I turned it down, it must have been two or three times, because I thought this record here was “just” another one of those expensive “twelve-inch import money grab single editions” of the already released, much better known Shep Pettibone-House remix. Man, was I wrong! And I'm so glad that I listened to Dennis back then 😂🙏. -
CJ Mackintosh and Dave Dorrell's distinctive House Mix (9:10) is hands down the best version of this song. What a pity it's only available on two UK 12", while the UK CD single only has a pale 5:03 edit.
