The Police – Every Move You Make (The Studio Recordings)

I think I paid €15 for this on Amazon, sounds fine to me. I have Message In A Box too but must buy the A&M first edition CD masters as I sold them years ago like a clown.

Of the many Police compilations, this is the best-sounding with the exception of Regatta De Blanc, which sounds awful. Something went seriously wrong on that album. The 2003 remaster of RDB is the superior edition.

Basically Message in a Box 2.0, without the debut 1977 Fall Out single and Don't Stand 86, but this time with the very rare 1982 re-recording of Truth Hits Everybody, the rarest studio b-side. As someone else already mentioned, Truth was transferred from vinyl in a less than perfect, but still pretty good method.

Every track except Truth 1982 has been remastered, BUT..... keep in mind all albums and all regular b-sides were ALREADY remastered in 1993 for Message in a Box. So, this is a second remaster (2003 "remasters" were just volume boosted and extra compressed). It does not sound any better, just different. Some early b-sides were made quick and dirty, so some tricks were employed to make them sound cleaner. The tricks worked, but keep in mind the original tapes were always somewhat muddy.

Currently available from HMV for £9.99 (both in store and online). Just purchased it today from one of my local branches.

The version of "Truth Hits Everybody" on the 'Flexible Strategies' (b-sides) disc, is not actually a 'remix', but a 1983 re-recording. What's special is that this is its first, official appearance in a digital format (it wasn't included on 1993's ironically-titled "The Complete Recordings"). The drag is that the transfer is taken from vinyl. While it is nicely declicked, it suffers from heavy noise reduction and poor EQ, lacking clean high end - presumably to disguise that it is from vinyl, and not a tape source. The comparative difference in fidelity is quite evident. Worse still, the vinyl transfer is at the wrong speed, running about 3.5% too slow.

A real nice release in deed. Does anybody know why this box is a Ltd. Edition? To me there seems nothing special to it except, the bargain price...

A really nice set, which has individual gatefold 'mint pack' CD wallets for each disc, faithful to the original LP artwork. The outer box is sturdy and has a lift-off lid, with a lined interior and a thick blue ribbon inside to ease lifting out the discs. What's more, it's available (as of today) in Tesco supermarkets for £15. That's cheaper than HMV (£19.99) and Amazon (£16.66). Extremely good value for money.
