Wow. Incredible. This is by far the best version of Ascenseur pour l'échafaud that I own. -

Get this album for side B. The tracks are beautiful (basically a companion to KOB) and the pressing and sound quality is sublime. Side A sounds good too but has some minor surface noise. -
The Louis Malle film in the soundtrack is usually called "Elevator to the gallows" in the US and "Lift to the scaffold" in GB ("Ascenseur pour L'échafaud" in the original.)

This edition is very identical to the 1973 remaster I had but which from scratch had a scratch in the Frantic side. That one was analogue but because of the side-length of 25 minutes on side one sounded a bit flat nonetheless, and well, the music is so frail here and beautiful it does not stand a scratch. So I bought this Waxtime edition, because I do want the great 58 session included, cannot stand the the albums where Frantic is broken up in two sides, and this Jazz Track sounds like a real album. And you know, even if this Waxtime record is digital, it does not show the problem of the side-length, it does not sound flat at all! -

Each of the songs on Side B ranks among my favorites. But no matter how hard I try I just don't get the cover art. To me it looks like a three-eyed bug preparing to remove a sizeable chunk of flesh from Miles' hand. Anyone? -

This album sounds great. A very fine pressing. One exception, Side B has this strange tracking issue. Depending on where the stylus drops in the run-in groove, you may have the first track of side B sound all distorted and muffled. If you lift up the stylus and try again, you'll may hit the "clean" groove. It is like there is a double groove on the run-in groove. It's really strange. Probably a mispress. I originally thought it was fuzz/dust on my stylus, but that wasnt the issue. I've gone through 3 copies of this LP. All have had this issue. I'm using a Rega RP40 with an Elys2 cart, if that matters. The "clean" groove sounds superb. -

I have what appears to be this lp but second song on side 2 is titled "Put Your Little Foot Right Out" Everythong else is the same. -
The notes for this are wrong. The original soundtrack concludes at 'Chez Le Photographe Du Motel'.
The tracks listed at B1,B2, & B3 don't feature in the film. -
Edited 13 years agoCan anybody tell me why there is 'the original sound track recording from FRANTIC' on the cover of the 180g version?
