Slint – Spiderland

I have a copy just like this except without the DVD. Anyone know what version it would be?

Mastering wise it’s spot on, deep and rich. Press is warped, my stylus rides the waves and hangs in there. Plenty of little crackles, straight out of the packaging, haven’t tried a clean yet.

Mine also came warped but it doesn’t affect play. It also came without any surface noise, side A being mostly quiet but side B was riddled with pops and clicks, especially on Washer which is quite unfortunate. I held the disc to the light and it has some residue sprinkled throughout which I think is causing it. Hopefully a deeper clean can bring this one back. Sound is incredibly good and is worthy of the price of ission. John Golden always does a great cutting job.

EDIT 70% quiet (condition of most modern pressings IME) after a machine cleaning

With a Microline stylus a get no surface nosie. A couple of clicks and pops between some songs but that's all. Soundstage is great.

A good cleaning did wonders for this pressing at least for me.

My copy is still a bit noisy after several cleanings. Apart from that, it sounds great.

Isn't this basically just a US first pressing, minus some minor changes to the jacket and labels? I personally believe so, and I imagine Rainbo just started pressing more copies from the same master plate when the album sold better than expected. I know it's rumored that Spiderland only sold a few thousand copies in the first year, but I suspect that Touch and Go made a small batch first, and then pressed a couple more after the album sold enough copies. But, if anyone knows more than me, please let me know!

My copy sounds absolutely amazing with great dynamics.

As everyone already knows, the sound on this is stunning and lifelike. Really cool color variant, too. Proof that often, the simplest means produce the most effective results (see: the story of this album's recording process). A punk rock success story in its totality. Own it.
