The John Coltrane Quartette* – Coltrane

This is the definitive version of this album in my opinion. The mix is gorgeous with all four musicians given an equal amount of room on the soundstage. I find that the newer verve mail club reissue to be a tad too bright with Coltrane's horn front and center while the other three are pushed to the back. This 45 is very dynamic and detailed while still being very musical and enjoyable. Soul Eyes and Miles Mode really benefits the most from the 45 format.

If you love this album, dont mind 45s and looking for the best sounding version, this is it.

This edition sounds absolutely marvelous. Get it while its still cheap. The Hoffman forums point toward this being an ANALOG reissue, despite the “digital” verbiage

Odd cropping of cover art is a knit pick. I could give a shit. Solid tip on gatefold. Great sounding pressing all around. I'm impressed and happy.

Is this Coltrane LP the one currently on sale at Verve website?

6 or 7 nicks in line on the front cover at the top. Not a big deal, but it is always something with this hobby. This was not a cheap record.

If there's a version that sounds better, I'm not sure I need it. This thing sounds amazing. Vinyl so quiet I thought I was on the wrong input (true story!). The sound is full and dynamic. Every instrument sounds great. Great start for the VRC, imo.

Another noted that the cover art is cropped/positioned slightly differently to other releases. Not sure what that's about, but I would love to see a correction or acknowledgement from Verve. Doesn't bother me much tbh and I would not have noticed.

The cover photo is oddly cropped, part of Coltrane's ear is missing. Not a perfect start for a new series from Verve, please get the details right.
