The same trio from Montreux II, here we find our hero splitting piano duties between Fender Rhodes electric and the acoustic piano, with Eddie Gomez providing bass solos in between. It's not your conventional Bill Evans record, but certainly interesting and the playing is in the pocket as you've come to expect. These are all BE originals, BTW.

Highlights are "Waltz For Debby" and an ethereal reading of "Re: Person I Knew".

The recording is decent, not great. Acoustic piano has some plinkiness in the upper (solo on B3). This is an early '70s Columbia pressing, so pretty average vinyl. I am getting inner groove distortion on B3, second half.

I'm not saying I don't like this record, but there are at least 15 Bill Evans records I prefer before it. Nevertheless, it won two Grammys, so what do I know? 3.5 stars.

A friend kindly brought this for me from Japan. Impressive packaging and pressing. Great SQ. The music itself is not my thing what with the electric piano and guitars....but I enjoyed a couple of the tracks .

Unfortunately my copy had an audible pressing flaw on the last track on side 1 which ran through the entire track. Had it replaced.with another copy but it had the same flaw. Maybe an entire batch of this pressing has the same problem? Otherwise great sounding music on flat quit vinyl.

Bill Evans on the rhodes is very underrated - he expressed disdain for electronic instruments, yet he utilizes it so well. Album has a nice and lively sound, but this is a long album so don't expect anything audiophile-level.
